BMW Warranty and 'Wear and Tear'

Update - Allianz have since confirmed to me that despite what their website says, ALL policies (pre and post Mar 16) are covered for wear and tear up to 100,000 miles

I've used the search function and read lots of differing stories of success or otherwise in dealing with BMW/Mondial on issues where wear and tear is the cause for failure but I've not seen reference to something I have just come across.

I took out a rolling monthly deal about 4 years ago and always remember wear and tear being a generic concept but if you look in the latest policy booklet it states

If you have the comprehensive level
of cover however, we have included
all insured components even if the
failure is due to normal degradation
(wear and tear) up to 100,000 miles
from the date of registration.

This sounds amazing but on the website it adds a condition (which isn't in the policy booklet ) which stipulates this is only the case on Policies sold after March 2016?!

This seems awfully unfair on loyal customers who have had their policies for some time though I guess they may have more confidence in their engineering from 2013 onwards perhaps?

Has anyone had to pull that quote out and has it worked where the policy was older than the date mentioned on the website?

It's also interesting as my monthly premium has twice increased in recent years which raises the question of them changing the terms of the contract and whether the latest position would be applicable at that stage? In fact, the terms of the monthly policy suggest that monthly insurance commences each and every month a payment is received, i.e. the policy is 'sold' monthly...

Your BMW Insured
Warranty will last for one month from
the commencement date and
thereafter for one month following
each monthly payment paid by you.

I don't understand what your question is.

Wear and tear will be on things like bushes, springs and other parts that are likely to fail due to age/mileage.
If they were starting to say fuel pumps, turbos etc are not covered due to wear and tear that would be different.

I would also expect the cover is for the month from the date the payment is taken, to the day before the next payment is taken. So you could pay the monthly premium, cancel the policy and still claim as you have paid for that month (imo)

Sorry Dan, I obviously wasn't very clear

Wear and tear when I got my policy was a paragraph that stated any covered component that wears and tears with age and mileage is not covered.

Whereas, apparently if you bought your policy past March 16 any covered component subject to wear and tear is included up to a 100,000 mile limit

So the question was whether anyone on a pre March 16 policy (i.e. my monthly one) had faced a wear and tear issue and had success fighting it based on the fact new customers seemingly get a better deal?

I've had no issue with bmw warranty on any claim. I've got it on both our E90 and mini, both policy's are monthly and were taken out 2/3 years ago. E90 has had items such as a clutch and flywheel at about 60k, and more recently the mini had 2x front wheel bearings at 69k. All which I would have thought they would have tried the 'wear and tear' get out but they've covered it no questions asked. Really can't fault it

Depends on age of your car, mileage, level of cover and whether you set an excess up or not

I've got an 07' with 58k on Comprehensive cover with zero excess for £57/month

thats interesting thank you, can you take it out at any time or do you have to go in for a health check first? mines long out of warranty but its '10 and 65k miles.
wonder if there is a period where you can't claim, to stop people blowing there gearboxes then paying £50 and saying oh its just broken....

If you take out a policy, you have to wait 30 days to make a claim.

No health check, but they'll check your service history at the time of a claim to make sure it's been done properly.

At 65K, you're sadly just past the 60K threshold that results in a significant bump in price. You'll probably be looking at £1K with a £100 excess. Perhaps better to just keep it in an emergency bank account.

Mondial / Allianz themselves are great but I have to say the actual experience of the warranty with BMW dealers has been poor for me.

They are trying to wriggle out of doing work under warranty. Trying to say the diagnostic fee cannot count toward the excess despite the warranty covering reasonable diagnostic fees.

To the point on wear and tear I was told by Allianz themselves that they decided to switch everyone over to the post March 2016 clause so wear and tear is included. Call them if any doubts they are great to deal with on the phone.

I was thinking of getting bmw comprehensive warranty cover, but note that proof of all previous services have to be backed up by Vat receipts .
Is this correct as i only have service book history/proof.

Thanks

As long as the person/company who did the service/work is VAT registered it will be fine.
I have no receipts for work that was completed previous to my ownership.
