Sorry no photo... but I noticed a vacuum hose hanging down next to my driver's side exhaust. There's a little clip on it that looks like it's supposed to attach to the body panel and there's a screw in the end plugging the hose. Car is a 2009 335I Xdrive E92

Or it's for the vacuum operated exhaust valve that's part of the stock exhaust system. See "golf tee mod".

I'll look into the golf tee in a bit. Does the screw in the end of the hose mean that someone already did this mod?

No, your "screw mod" is different, as it's a "screw" and not a "golf tee" or a "Baby Groot" shoved up in the line.

OP, since you already saw the screw in the line I would hope you already looked around for what the line normally connects to (hint, not to a Baby Groot).

Watch this vid by Tara, a cutie and member here, for clues. It's possible someone replaced your stock exhaust so you may not see the same stuff, but you'll get the picture.
