2008 BMW 328xi Dashboard does not work
Hi I was wondering of someone could help.
I have a 2008 328xi the other day I got in the car as normal and turned the car on. Dashboard completely out no lights. When I drive the Spedo and RPMs do not move. It appears and act the same as if the car was parked and no key in. Radio works but can only turn on cant change the clock as the time reads --:--. These work heater, rear defrost, sunroof, windows. The exterior lights work I cant turn on the turn signals and they blink outside the car but inside no lights no noise. I can drive the car its just no lights on the dash. I put the key in and pushed the power button for 30 sec and nothing happen. I pulled fuse #74 (cluster) all looked good no issues. The only weird thing that was different was we had snow last Friday cleared the car Saturday and it warmed a bit then was really cold Saturday / Sunday night. Then Monday didnt drive the car then Tuesday went to go to work and discovered no dash lights. I read somewhere I could pull the negative battery cable and let it sit for a few hours / over night and that might help. Any suggestions on what to try next? Thanks |

I would start by checking for codes, if he has no instruments, he's not going to see the xmas tree of warning lights, and codes will likely be present.
Like most problems with these cars, the codes usually give you a really good indication of what's going on. I'd also check fuses. I know that sounds obvious, but you never know, right?

Was this car subject to the Cabin Battery Cable recall
and did it get it. https://www.usatoday.com/story/money...ables/1924627/ Otherwise start with checking the battery voltage at the battery and at the cabin fuse board. The instrument cluster shares a fuse with the obd port. But the rest of the dash should be on if that is blown. https://www.bmwusa.com/safety-recalls.html The above site is not always up to date or accurate. Always make sure you have a strong a fully charged battery berfore jumping to conclusions because the IBS system can mess with you. Last edited by ctuna; 02-24-2018 at 04:34 PM.. |
