Sport mode by default

Love my car. But I don't like starting out in normal Drive mode as the initial pedal response is...hmmm. .... lacking unless I push the pedal down firmly. I don't suffer such indignities if I move the lever over to sport mode...2008 335i

So here is my thought : make the sport mode the default when you pull the shift lever back in to "D" after the engine start. Slide the shift lever left to achieve normal drive mode for the highway cruising. Possible?

Anyone ever accomplish this? I would imagine coding would be one way to do this, but there are a lot of clever folks here who may be able to swap wires around to achieve the same effect. Would be a great option for a Foxwell or Carley type interface.

And, yes, I probably need to reset my adaptations to give a little crisper throttle response in normal drive.

Have to go off line for a while. Will check back later.

You bought the wrong car. The M3 and SMG trannys where the car goes from P to R to N to D/S sport mode.

How long does it take you to move the lever to sport mode?

Seems like a lot of work when you take 0.5 seconds and move the shifter to the left as it is. I wouldn't mess with it

Tough crowd tonight. Looking to avoid the "broken wires in the shifter" phenomenon also. Unfortunately my car was not blessed with a dct. I do appreciate the feedback.

I use DS a lot and had the same concern. Fortunately you can do an easy preventative fix for the shifter wires. Just untuck the wiring to give it a lot more slack. I followed this:

Seems like a lot of unnecesary work to not move the shifter to the left
Funda could go to better mods
Plus our cars are steptronic, not sure if you knew we could “change gears” while in sport, that feature would then be gone if sport is seitch with D, because you can’t upshoft into neutral or downshift (probably gor up and down mixed up in typing this)into a non existing space

Well if he has paddles that won't be an issue. However I don't understand why he'd want his car to hold gears in higher RPMs all the time, especially when the motor is still cold.

He could just do an xHP tune on the tranny.
I plan to.

I don't think he'd like that. I have the stage 3 XHP flash and D mode upshifts really fast. You'll be in 6th by 40mph
