[Just Apex It]

Hey guys, how's it going? Some of you may know me if you're in the Tampa/Orlando area. I often go to many of the surrounding events going on, so you may have seen myself or my car. I actually help run Tampa Bimmer Club, so if you're ever at one of the meets, come say hi to me! Anyways, I figured it was finally time to create a build thread of sorts to help document everything being done to the car and the places I go in it, sharing the journey along the way and maybe helping a few people make some decisions.

This particular car is a 04/2007 build date and I spent 3 months looking before settling on this car. It's by no means perfect and is a bit of a project car, but 2 years ago I got it at a price you wouldn't have thought you could buy a 335i for. I had a set of options I wanted the car to have and the one thing I didn't get was a Manual. Sadly they were hard to come by in 4 door so I settled for the next best thing. The car needed some work and it wasn't the prettiest, but it was mine. Enough chit chat, here's the specs of the car.

I picked the car up on March 14, 2016 and enjoyed the car the way it was for the first two months and took it to a local Indy to have maintenance done.

After owning the car for a couple months, I joined a local car club called Tampa Bimmer (now called Tampa Bimmer Club) and regularly attended just about every meet possible. One of the first meets I went to was at Ben T. Davis Beach and I was amazed at how many other BMW's came out.

From one of those meets, I met someone who would become a very close friend and mentor of mine. First time going to his house in the picture below. This seems like forever ago. His old house and and old setup on both cars.

After a while I decided the Golf Tee Mod wasn't loud enough and picked up a modified stock exhaust from a local club member.
Secondary cats replaced with vibrant resonators, OEM X-pipe and OEM Muffler Mod (Not PE Mod. PE Mod has the outer two pipes replaced, this one has all four pipes replaced with straight pipes and the packing removed).

The car remained this way for the remainder of the year and I simply enjoyed the car and continued to do maintenance and repairs to it. It got to the point where I started doing everything myself and no longer took it to a Indy shop. I continued to go to many meets and events and met a ton of amazing people. The car let me down a couple times and had to be towed twice. It made me consider selling the car multiple times, but everytime I decided to keep it. Luckily the car never broke down in 2017 and still has yet to let me down in 2018.

[Just Apex It]

2017 brought some big changes that absolutely transformed this car as well as being able to go to some amazing places.

As I was saying earlier, this was a bit of a project car. The paint was not perfect and had clear signs of respray in multiple areas. It was time to let the professionals do their thing and respray the entire front end of the car. In preparation of that, I went ahead and had the fenders rolled and mildly pulled. At the same time, I told him to go ahead and trim the metal section of the rear quarter panel where it meets the rear bumper as that was a common place to rub (in which I did rub, and had to have him come back out a second time so he could trim it since I didn't have him do it the first time).

Then came the LED's from eBay seller Teknikal2. I'm verry happy with them even 1 year later. The seller is even a BMW enthusiast himself, so even more reason to support him.

At last, it was finally time to drop the car off at Simplistic Fabrications and get the front end resprayed. Dropped the car off on a Monday and picked it up that Friday.

Some pictures of the car finally resprayed. While the car was at the body shop, I had them restore and clear coat the headlight lenses. The whole car looks completely different now. Also added the lower grille to the car finally and it truly did make it look better (Not sure what the PO did with it).

Best 1/4 mile run that day was 13.1 @109 mph running on an old E25 tune by my old tuner on around 18psi tapering to 11psi by 6000 rpms (I am now tuned by Ken @ Wedge Performance)

February 2018 AutoX with FAST
This was my first autocross ever. My first run was a 48.xx second run and I ended the day by shaving 6 seconds off with a 42.6x second run! I had an absolute blast and will be trying to do these monthly.

Dyno Day
I ended up making 388whp/425wtq on my old E30 tune from my old tuner running around 18psi tapering to 15psi at 6500 rpms. Now that I am tuned by Ken @ Wedge Performance, the car is running much stronger and making atleast 400whp tune only on E30.

And that brings us to the Present day. I'm currently planning on having the car dyno'ed again before the bolt ons start arrving later this month. I'll also go back to the drag strip before the bolt ons go on the car to see how much faster it's running. Stay tuned.

Thanks man! Front end respray was somewhere around $1100 if I remember correctly. That included the headlights. I actually had to go back twice. It came out great color match wise the first time, but there were some minor imperfections I wanted addressed, so the second time the color match wasn't perfect. Third time was the charm and I've been happy with it this far. Richard @ Simplistic Fabrication has always gone above and beyond and always fixed what needed to be addressed.

Audi coilpacks? The car is tune only right now, but that doesn't mean Audi coilpacks aren't in its future.

I know this is a bigger topic, but why not just upgrade to the bimmerlife coils or the other ones? Are the audi ones cheaper but still give the needed boost to the spark?

Are you talking about the picture of the Motiv E90 from WannaGoFast? That car is on BimmerLife coils.

But the BimmerLife coils use OEM revision F Audi R8 coils.

And that brings us to current day. Downpipes are at the house, just need to find time to install and 7" VRSF intercooler and MMP stock location inlets will be going on soon as well. Then we'll retune and redyno the car to see the new #s. The goal for this car is a reliable 450whp on the stock T-Map sensor (~20psi) on E50-E60. Nothing too crazy.

A little update for you guys.

Went by Midnite Tuning Inc to have my transmission serviced and have some E46 M3 bushings installed at the same time. Midnite Tuning is always taking care of my car anytime I'm not wanting to do the work on my car. Some awesome guys over there.


Then went ahead and had a photoshoot done with Nick Shave and LMH.Media and the pictures turned out awesome! I'll post a few of my favorites.








Nothing new has really happened to the car besides that. Downpipes still need to be installed and I need to head back out to the drag strip soon to see what kind of numbers I can get. Let me know your thoughts so far!
