Dash cam
Ok so after multiple recent events, thankfully no accidents but some very close calls I'm looking for a dash cam.
I want something that records in HD but also a small one so I don't know its there, maybe one that can hide behind my rearview mirror? any advise would be welcome. |

I've got a nextbase 312gw,
good quality footage, cheap and hides behind the rearview mirror no problem. I forget it's there sometimes!

I have a Thinkware F770. It sits nicely behind the rearview mirror and cannot be seen from the drivers seat. It also includes a rear camera that can be mounted on the back window. Both record in Full HD.

I have a HP F330 and it's superb. HD recording, option to switch sound on/off, and will record a fair chunk of footage before it overwrites itself. There's also an emergency button so you can store footage you want to keep & not overwrite. There's a micro SD card that I just remove whenever I want to download footage. I could take the camera out (5 second job) but I find it easier to remove the SD card only. I paid under £40 for mine, and it's subtle enough to sit in front of the mirror. The built in screen auto times out after a few seconds too - not that it's a distraction anyhow. I hard wired mine to an ignition feed, it powers up & down automatically when you start & switch off the car.

Read up on how to drop the courtesy light, you'll break it if you don't know how it comes down. |

I hard wired mine to the fuse box as the F770 comes with hard wire kit as requested. You can choose the 12v adapter wiring if you so decide.

I use a pair of mobius camera. One on the front and one on the rear. Hard wired into my fuse box and set to start recording with the ignition.
They are cool little cameras. Often used with drones because of their small size. About £55. This is not mine but gives you an idea of the size. The wiring is actually really easy to hide. You just push it in between the edges of the car along the door, windscreen etc.

I've hard wired mine in and it shuts down when the battery level drops.
I do get an error code in the dde related to the power management saying there is a current drain though. Nevertheless I've not experienced any issues. |

I had 2 Garmin dash cams that were great but ended up moving to a Blackvue DR-450 hardwired professionally all in with camera for £185.
I have moved on to a DR-750 now and have found the Blackvue stuff excellent ... but dearer than the Halfords / eBay type ones |

The mobius has a little battery in it good for something like 15 mins. You can change the settings for the camera to turn off with power off or a few mins after that. With short trips though the little lithium battery won't have time to fully recharge. Depending on which fuse you patch into you can have power off with ignition, off when the car sleeps (which is probably 30 mins after the car is locked and left totally alone) or always on. I have mine set to turn off when the car sleeps. Good for some car park recording when doing some shopping. If you don't drive enough though you may drain your battery too much. The mobius current draw is low. No screen to power. If you do want always on you'll be better wiring in a little recharging battery that charges while driving. You need a little pcb to cut off at a certain voltage so the battery doesn't drain too low and damage itself. |

Im using a mini 0906 as I wanted something which filmed both front and back in HD plus had a decent parking guard. It’s about £125 with a hard wiring kit which I’m running of the fuses via piggy backs.
