Powder Coating Wheels

What are people's experiences with powder coating wheels? Is it durable?

I'm interested in having my 442Ms powder coated gloss black, but am worried about chipping or potential damage when the tires are changed, wear over time etc.

Depends on who does it.

Powder Coating IS only way to do it properly.

If done correctly, no issues.

had many sets done over the years - and as long as the work is done properly you will not have any issues - in that you are in LA i would highly recommend Primo Powder Coating in Huntington Beach - they do many many sets daily and even offer same day service where you simply drop your car off (with the wheels on) and they dismount prep and powder coat and have then have the wheels rebalanced/installed etc by a local tire shop

Great, thanks for the recommend. I'll take a look. 435i is my only car so I'd prefer a same day turnaround if possible.

In LA, it ranged from $480-800 with turn around from same day to 3 business days. My first reply was actually $800 w/ 3 day turn around... I'd have to get a rental to get to work so that was completely out of the question. $480 was for non-gloss black, $100 more for any gloss colors.

Here's what Primo in Huntington Beach quoted me last time I was there

Drop wheels - 2-3 day turn around
$65 per wheel single coat
$90 per wheel two stage coat (some silvers gloss black etc)

24 turn around
add $25 per wheel

Drop wheel with tire still on
add $25 per wheel

Drop entire car with same day turn around
$480 single coat $580 two stage

its funny when I drive past there - I typically see 3-4 cars sitting out front up on jack-stands

I just got mine done last week, they came out sweet looking. it was 650$ out the door (includes balancing and valve stems), i dropped my car off and picked it up 7 hours later same day service.

They also said cleaning them you can just use soap and water dont need any fancy polish stuff.

Holy shit that's pretty. I thought I wanted to do grey once my diamond cut wheels start to get the worms. Can you take some more pics?
