I thought about joining the armed forces when I was in my late twenties and I chicken out. Got to hand it to anyone who served.

Memorial Day is not about those who served, but those who died serving. I will be remembering all those who died for this country and would have been mortified by what the people of this country have become. Today, people can't even show respect for the flag or national anthem - how would they ever give their lives serving to defend those things?

And...to know that those who have died, died for all of us and for the rights and freedoms that many have forgotten or have shown disrespect for.

Nobody in particular but my dad is an engineer for the defense division of a large aeronautical firm. He has worked on numerous US Air Force and Navy aircraft. It makes me proud.

These pics were taken in D.C. and I was really impressed of the size of this memorial.
I have no one special to remember but I have all respect for those who had made the free world to the actual place and died in duty.

I had this pall in WA. He looked and moved like he was 108. His knees were shit. Most of his brain was washed away by years of substance abuse. He didn't say much ever, he lived under a bridge basically.

He gave me a black eye once because I snuck up on him by accident. The few times I could get him to answer questions I figured he had seen shit no man should see.

Anyway. I think he died when we still were there. I couldn't find him in the end and there wasn't anyone I could've asked of him from either.

I called him Rambo in my head after our fist eye meet and greet but I doubt I'll ever forget the guy who didn't even tell me his name in the year and a half we met almost daily. He, and the few others who lost their lives to mental illness after serving I knew back there made a real impression on my family. I'm grateful for that.

Romeo Bishundat, USN. Killed 9/11/01. He was in the Pentagon.

Glenn Read, my uncle and namesake, who was killed June 11, 1944 when his B-17 was shot down over the English channel.
