How Much For Paint & Installation

I bought the F30 Autotechnik M Sport conversion kit for my 2012 335i, but I need it painted and installed. I went to a local body shop and was quoted $1300. Anyone know what it should cost? Am I being overcharged? Any suggestions for a shop in Maryland?

Nobody here would know how much it should cost, as every place is different. Call around to local body shops and form your estimate / consensus.

That's pretty high. I was quoted generally around 500 from a few body shops in northern VA.

I had the rear bumper on my e92 repainted and it was around 400, with some filling/smoothing needed.

Edit: didn't realize this was for both bumpers...

Depending on paint color and the match you want, it could be cheap or high.

It’s high for some....low for others.

$500 per bumper and $300 to install isn’t unreasonable.

I’ve paid about $1000 each with install to have it done to my standards.

One thing you dont want to cheap out on is paintwork. There are tons of hacks out there that will set you up with an orange peel paint job that looks great from 10'

Thats not what you want. I agree with IK6SPEED that you should expect to pay approximately $500 per bumper for the paint work from a quality shop.

The materials alone have become extremely expensive (depending on color) in recent times and then they have to make a few bucks.

Dont be afraid to do an in person visit to a few shops to see what they are working on currently. If its a bunch of junk, stay away.

I second ooshno's recommendation and get a few quotes from other places. I wouldn't go with the first place you got a quote from unless you were referred to them by someone you know that has gotten work done from.

I don’t think anyone flat out told you that.

And you have yet to reveal color.

I have had some pieces painted over the years, that's reasonable. They have to color match at 4 separate body parts plus the remove and replace.

I checked 2 others. The other 2 were Sub $2000, but more than $1300. Was just wondering if that was the going rate in the MD region.

My body work guy charges 200-300 a bumper fully painted and installed. But because we have bmws he charges 300 ea
Got my back touched up and repainted and installed new front bumper and painted...aw matched flawlessly
He also did my buddy's rear in imperial blue and also looks flawless, to me at least

Ps this is extremely cheap for body work imo, but that's y I use him

This is what a $300 bumper paint job gets you. Lots of luck ever getting it right.
