You get better deals at the diamond district with diamond brokers. They can bring in a ton of rings with your specs and you can see them all at once.

And don't fall to much into the 4c's marketing. Definitely use as a guideline but buy the best diamond you can that looks good from an arms length away. In everyday life, no one is going to examine your stone with a loop, lol. I saw plenty of diamonds that looked less impressive on the hand than diamonds with lower specs, which allowed me to go bigger.

Sorry, couldn't resist! Just kidding of course and have no experience with Blue Nile. Good luck with the search for the engagement ring!

OP is in Australia... And while I agree with your post, that's a long track from Brisbane!

Australia?!?!? Forget it, dont do it! Too many beautiful women in Australia.

Just like your M, just lease her and dont buy. Dont want to keep a depreciating asset on your balance sheet.

Totally kidding!!! Have fun with the diamond buying process and congrats!!!

haha

diamond prices here are insane, holiday to US then buying a ring there will save me a few grand compared to buy here

blue nile seems like a good compromise and seems reputable enough... what im concerned about is whether there GIA reports and their 3D images are of the actual diamond ill be purchasing

swear to god, buying a diamond is more complex than buying a car

I did not buy her engagement ring there, but have bought my wife jewelry from Blue Nile, including a diamond pendant / necklace. It's a good place to shop IMO, particularly if you don't have a local jeweler with reasonable prices you trust. Focus on quality within your budget. Congrats and good luck!

If Blue Nile is your best bet for buying in Australia, buy with confidence with Blue Nile. They are as legit as you can get with buying a diamond online. You pretty much get what you see on Blue Nile. But you lose the subject aspect since you dont get to see in person.

Bought $20k engagement ring on blue Nile. Got exactly what I wanted.

Having bought other engagement rings in retail stores ( don't ask) I thought blue Nile was the best deal and smooth transaction.

Yes, I purchased my wife's engagement ring and wedding rings (yes two) from Blue Nile. I did a wire transfer and saved some money. Had a great experience and her ring is stunning. She picked the style and the diamond, I just had to drop a pretty penny. Here's a pic of the engagement ring:

I bought my wife's 4 diamond wedding band at Blue nile and got a great deal. I do recommend them. This was 10 years ago but we were very happy with the quality.

Buy the biggest carat and best colour you can afford or willing to pay for, what you can see with naked eye. Just remember when girls get together they compare, it is like a dick measuring contest for them. If the ring make her look good then it’ll make you look good.

This is a really good book if buying diamonds

https://www.amazon.com/Diamonds-4th-...u8L&ref=plSrch

It’s really helpful when u have a 10X loupe and know how to get a second appraisal backup.

I ordered a perfect ring and diamond from Brilliant Earth. But in the end my fiance had me return it even though she loved it and we went for a local jeweler. She preferred a lab created bigger diamond that was of lower quality. I liked the first diamond and ring better. And it was supposedly what she wanted but after we went to a shop she preferred the extra cut lower quality lab diamond.

So it depends on what she'll actually like in person. If you have a good relationship I wouldn't sweat it. We had already talked about rings before I proposed so I wasn't stuck on the specific ring as long as I could get a full refund which I did.

I personally think that the color is more important to the naked eye than the clarity (as long as you're VS2 or better). I went with VVS2 but F color. VS2 looks plenty clear so I'd say go with that and then go with F or G color. Check the girdle and table as well.

I went through this a while back and did a lot of research. Originally I was thinking ideal round cut, 1.25-1.5 carats, D color, and VVS2. I did some research to get thoughts and opinions as well as asked people around me. The main consensus is that you can do VS2 and H color and bigger carat because unless you have an H next to a G or F, it’s very hard to tell the difference. Even then, most people don’t notice the difference. If you have to choose, I’d go over color over clarity. As long as the diamond has good brilliance and the fire sparkles, it doesn’t really make a whole lot of difference whether you go H vs F/G or VS2 vs VVS2. So perhaps forgo those and get a bigger diamond with better cut.

I agree. One thing is, a lot of the sparkle comes from the girdle and table. If the light doesn’t reflect back properly, you get reduced sparkle/bling.
