Reccomendation for Helmets
Hey Guys can anyone reccomend a place to get helmets. They have to be Snell 2000 compliant or better.

I just ordered an HJC full face Snell 2005 for about $120. This was a fair bit cheaper than all the Snell 2000s sitting on the rack.
I suggest you get a 2005. Try www.hjchelmets.com .

The different brands of helmets have very different sizing characteristics. Unless replacing an identical model with a newer one, I strongly suggest going to a motorcycle shop and trying on the different brands. Few things are more annoying than a misfitting helmet putting pressures on certain parts of your skull.

I saw a silver E90 in Wilmington on I-95 the other day, and couldn't help wondering if it was you.

I don't think that you can use full face helmets while doing the bmw events, but I have to check on that. For motorcycles though, I highly recommend Shoei. It is pretty expensive I paid about $450 for mine, but it was one of the best. I don't think that you should skimp out on something that can save your life, and you do not have to get the graphics on it to cut on the cost. I had a HJC (about $200) before the shoei and the wind noise was unbearable, and well as the turbulance and stress on your neck muscles. I ended up getting hit my a car on my 04 gsxr 750 and hit the pavement face first w/ the shoei on. I never even felt the impact on my head. After that, I bought another Shoei, the Diablo, and wouldn't buy any other brand.

I tend to get a new one every 2 - 4 years, so I get mine on ebay for under $100. I take care of them, but I don't want a little banging here and there (mostly getting in and out of cars) to compromise the integrity of the thing. |

if you're going to be using it for biking, don't cheap out and get a 100 job.. i'll come and beat you with a golf club if you do. buy a big name helmet (arai, shoei) and know your noggin is in a nice shell.
btw, snell/ansi cert's mean nothing. |

An M2000/5 (motorcycle) will be fine for BMWCCA events (and most other CCA events). An SA2000/5 (special application (cars)) will cost much more. Closed face helmets are fine for for BMWCCA events. How many events do you think you'll be going to a year? 2 - 4? The best protection while you're on the track is going to be your e90. Don't get pressured into spending $500 on a helmet when you won't need one. Lastly, I went to a motorcylce shop, tried on an HJC that fit and then had them order me a new M2005 for ~$120. It'll last for ten years of BMWCCA events.

Not edzachery. An undamaged Snell rated helmet will last until the certification expires. An M2000/5 (motorcycle) will be fine for BMWCCA events (and most other CCA events). An 'M' rated helmet will be fine for BMW<space>CCA driving schools and Club races. To what other BMW<space>CCA events do you refer? Some CCA chapters require Snell rated helmets and some are satisfied with DOT type approval. |

Hey All, thanks for all the replies. I went to the honda bike store today and tried on some HJCs and Shoei, and one Araj(Sp?) The Shoei was a bit easier to fit my glasses in than the HJCs but the price difference is pretty big. They had a HJC for about $130 and the shoei was $350. I'd like to try some bell helmets but don't know any places around wilmington that carry them.

try ebay.. shoei's are about 100 less there. I smacked my head on the pavement at 70mph and the melon came out fine, neck wasn't even stiff :rocks: . I *highly* encourage you to go with a more expensive helmet, you really do get what you pay for. |
