Brand new 335i E90 2010

Hello there

I am purchasing a brand new (that’s right) 335i E90 N54 engine manufactured in 2010. It was parked in the BMW dealer at a complete stop for 8 years because of legal reasons and it was recently put for sale. Note that the car remained completely off for 8 years.

Dealer told me that before the car went into sale they did a full maintenance and replaced all necessary parts. But when I asked for the parts list it was showing only a new battery, oil filter, engine oil, steering oil and low pressure fuel pump.

I’m worried there’s no water pump, injectors, brake fluid, coolant fluid, spark plugs and coils in the list. What do you think ? Anything else I should worry about ?

UPDATE: for those not willing to read the full post, I picked the car up with 500km 3 months ago and already driven it for another 3000Km no problems so far. It runs and feels brand new like sent from a time machine 10 years ago directly to our days. All pictures are been posted in http://instagram.com/e90reborn

i agree all the fluids need to be changed out...transmission fluid...engine coolant.

i think it'll depend on the price as well.

For the equivalent of US$28k in my country’s currency. That’s the same price of a brand new 2019 VW Jetta, for instance.

No brake fluid change? Are they on crack?

The injectors are an old rev you know that.

I would do all fluids, plugs, injectors, coilpacks etc. But I tend to be over cautious.

Lube the calipers.

At the end of the day every seal is 9 years old. Engines & cars dont like to sit.

Was it inside a showroom or left outside? A car in air conditioned storage/showroom all this time might be worthwhile but left outside with no attention doesn’t sound so good. Do you get new car warranty cause it’s a new car?

It was inside a closed place under a cover. It’s actually not brand brand new, it was bought by someone that returned the car a few months later because he claimed the bumper got repaint. It’s used with less than 500km so no, I don’t get the new car warranty (which spans for 2 years here). I get the legal warranty of 90 days valid for every purchase of used stuff in my country.

I am going to ask them to do all fluids. I have heard BMW might have a campaign to replace this car's injectors for free. So it might already have the latest revision or maybe I can get it replaced for free at my local dealer.

I'd ask for new tires too. They only have a shelf life of ~6 years or so. The set that's on there (if original) are likely dry-rotted.

Transmission and differential fluid is not something that gets broken down over time. Just with usage and millage.

But hey if they'll do it for free I guess why not

Absolutely -- good advice. In the pics, they coated the tires to make them look new. If they're original and have been sitting for 7 years, they can be dangerous under heavy usage. Have them replace them or budget for replacements. Same with valves if rubber.

Also, make good use of the 90 day -- look for any seal leakage anywhere and require replacement. If it was my car, I'd take it in to an indy about 45 days in for an end-to-end inspection.

This can be a great bargain, but don't expect it to be off-the-ship new.

If the tires weren’t exposed to uv you are probably fine. Check for cracking in them

8 year old tires are no good even if they were stored inside. even if they aren't cracked, they're going to be rock hard. They may hold air but I wouldn't drive on them personally...

I'd purchase it. However, I'd have $5000.00 on hand you don't mind spending on parts and maintenance. If not, walk away.

I think if you can stomach all the necessary initial maintenance, it will be a good car for around 75,000 miles and then, you'll start the maintenance process all over.

The worst thing OP could do is flip it to EAG. They’ll offer him $15k and say it was a massively produced car with notorious issues bound to happen. Then they’ll ask for $125k.
