My new *MK8* Ford Fiesta ST
Not coming to US?
Don't know what U're missing. Pocket rocket for a low price. Driven the car a couple of times now. What a noise coming from those 3-cylinders. Makes you happy |

Wow, that new exterior design is a vast improvement. Fiesta ST is well lauded among enthusiasts as a bargain hoon!

Looks so much better than the last version...shame the last one didn't sell too well in the US market.
3 cylinder engines sound awesome when they're tuned to! The Fiat 3 banger also sounds great. Still not as wonderful as the old Lancia V4 engines but not much can be as good as that!

I really like the fiesta ST a lot. I like the little mean eco hatchback look. Was really hoping to have one for a daily and something more fun like an R8 or viper for a sunny day type of thing. I hate the US market but love the prices..

yes but also feature a cylinder deactivation.
"In terms of efficiency, the EcoBoost engine features cylinder deactivation, first announced for the new 1.0 litre version. In its operation, fuel delivery and valve operation is paused for one of the engine’s three cylinders when the engine is under partial load conditions, such as when coasting or cruising under part-throttle. The single cylinder can be deactivated and brought back online in just 14 milliseconds." |

You must be one of those hoons who thinks V-twin sportbikes are forever and ever inferior to the inline fours that Japan puts out.
Strangely (sic), most pro motorcycle racers would vehemently disagree with you both about race suitability and sound. Even more strange: the sound of a tuned Triumph, most of which use 3-potters. Cylinder count does not matter. Engine design does.

What do these things make, power wise? There's a guy near me that has a sizable front mount on his car.
I love the way they look.

Riiiiight.
Hop on a tuned Speed Triple -- or, better yet, a 1299 Panigale R that puts out about 210 HP with two cylinders -- and tell me that it's a 'scooter'. If you live. My basic point: If the engine's efficient enough and designed well, cylinder count has no bearing on overall performance in this day and age. In fact, engines with too many cylinders can be a disadvantage for a variety of reasons, from excess weight and packaging issues to platform imbalance. Motorcycles merely demonstrate this via magnification of the effects.

Meanwhile, 3-cylinder engines generally are naturally balanced and inherently smoother because the central cylinder acts as a natural harmonic balancer. Two-cylinder designs often need to incorporate a so-called 'balance shaft' to keep inertial cylinder oscillation at bay.

I had a '16 FiST that I recently sold, but that was an amazing car. It's a shame we don't get the new generation here in the states.

Am I the only person ever that didn't like the Fiesta ST here in the states? I never understood why youtube reviewers, etc.. never mentioned the steering. I guess they just went into the test drive not expecting much from the steering? Whereas, when the 911 or F80 M3 switched to electric steering, that's all they'd talk about in the review. The electric steering on the Fiesta ST was garbage and that was the most boring and numb "sporty" car I've ever driven. Could you mod it out and hoon around and sling it across the road? Sure.. but the car had no soul and driver engagement/connection was severely lacking. The interior was also more basic and boring than a pumpkin-spiced latte sipping white girl in UGGs, but I'll forgive that on a car that costs sub-20k.
I was really disappointed because I was hoping the Fiesta ST was a good cheap alternative to a Civic SI. Unfortunately, not.. at least in my eyes.
