Anyone have experience with getting DMV custom plates PASSED?
I ordered some custom plates and the dmv just sent me a letter saying they're "inappropriate". It's basically 1I11Ti, and although it can be considered confusing (by RETARDS) it falls within their guidelines online. PLUS, there are several other similar configurations (1'a, I's, and T's) that are already taken, and on the road in this state and others. (I have pix of actual NY plates like this, so how do some pass and others not?)
So does anyone know of any ways to go about getting my plate? *Just one more reason to HATE the dmv/law/state/etc...

They sent me a letter listing possible reasons, the only one I could imagine would be:"confusing or objectionable to law enforcement".
Although, I have 1's, I's, and a T in it. I've seen plates, both NY, and other states (NJ, CA) that are just seven digits, all 1's and I's, which is more "confusing".

Called the DMV...
So apparently there are rules and guidelines... but even if you adhere to them, they can still change their mind and the rules as they see fit.

I had B18B1B passed in Washington a few years back. From my experience in DMV's around the country, it's up to them and your answer reflects on how they feel that day. They're often unwilling to change their minds once they've sent you that rejection, but it's certainly worth a shot at explaining to them. Better think of better reason than "so people wont remember it as I fly by"
My excuse was B18B1 was my engine code, which I pointed out to them.

Ha... well it sucks... you come up with something thats cool, or looks good and they deny it, even though it falls within all the rules. Plus when I called and said that I had a picture of a 1I11II1 NY plate, he said to send it in so they couldn't renew it for whomever it belongs to. (there are plenty of these plates floating around, and I got some dick who won't let me join in on one too.)
