sorry a couple of OIL questions

Sorry to bring up this topic again but i drive pretty rough so I am planning to change my oil at 5,000 miles. I just had a few questions that i couldnt find by searching. What type of oil do you guys reccomend+what comes from the factory? Is it mobil 1 or castrol? I want highest HP output. Also how much is a typical oil change at the dealer b/c they tend to charge outrageous prices for everything so just curious.

BMW oil is made by castrol. I use Mobil 1 just because thats what I trust. Not to say there is anything wrong with Castrol just my preference.

Factory oil is Castrol TXT 5W-30

In the USA you can only get this oil from a BMW Dealer and its called BMW Synthetic.

The other approved oil that is easy to get in the USA is Mobil 1 0W-40
Not the Mobil 1 5W-30 in the USA, the only Mobil 1 5W-30 approved is the very new European formula "5W-30 ESP"

My dealer her in MA uses Mobile 1. I just buy it there and get 20% off with the BMW CCA discount, so it's cheaper than buying it at Walmart.

I plan doing it twice a year. I'll do the first one at around 5K and then let the dealer do the next one and so on...

I just checking Castrol website , and found they do have a oil (0W-30) which is BMW Approved LL-01 oil, and it is available in US/Canada.
Is this what we needed????

Castrol SYNTEC 0W-30 Approved:
API SL/CF. ACEA: A3, B3, B4. VW 502 00, 505 00, 503 01. BMW Longlife-01. MB 229.1, 229.3. Porsche approved.

I saw them in Costco, only CAD$5.6 a liter.

Anyone know is this the one????

Why not just do the simple and easy thing and buy BMW synthetic 5w-30 from your dealership. It's cheaper than Mobil 1 and Castrol. Here in SoCal I pay $4.99 a qt for the BMW oil and $11.00 for the filter kit from the dealership. Auto parts store charge $5.99 for either Mobil 1 or Castrol and do not as of yet carry the filter kits. If you buy BMW Synthetic you will not have to worry about wether you purchased the proper oil.

I changed my own oil at 5,300 miles. I didn't know that she can swallow 7 quarts of oil though! Buy the oil from the dealer and be on the safe side.
