A strange thing happend today...

I got in the car and started it, and immediately noticed that the IDrive screen was messed up. There was no navigation on the left side, and the radio was not on on the right side. Then I tried to tune the radio on and realized that all my presets were lost in AM, FM and SAT. It was like the system had rebooted and forgot all its history.

I was in a hurry and it was a short trip for an errand so I did not mess with these issues right away. When I was done with my errand about 15 mins. later, I returned to the car and when I started it this time everything had returned to normal. All my presets were back in AM, FM and SAT and the Nav split screen was working fine again.

Very strange behavior.

Anyone else experience anything like this? Any known causes? Possible solutions?

I believe I have the latest software upgrade, but then again I may be wrong. How can I find out what version software I have?

As cars become more dependent on computers this will happen more and more often, Some call it progress...

I think iDrive reboots after 15 minutes of staying idle so that's why it fixed itself . I had one bad experience with iDrive like this few months ago but that's pretty much it. I hope you won't have any other problems

Yes, it was my usual FOB in my pocket. It was the same FOB when IDrive went blank and the very same one when everything returned to normal.

However, are you implying that the FOB can affect IDrive entertainment functions like presets?

You can reset iDrive. Just press simultaneously the radio power button and both Eject buttons. This is the CTRL-ALT-DELETE for iDrive, and makes it reboot.
