Tyre wear and camber

My rear NEW tyres are wearing already, only done a few burnouts and doughnuts also. Not that many

the inside of both rears are 2 odd mill less than the outside, my car does look like it has excessive camber.

Anyone else noticed this?

Only done a few burnouts and doughnuts!!! You are a nutter Carlos - every time i saw you in my rear view mirror you were driving it like you stole it!!!! On a serious note though - have you had a KDS alignment done recently?? Certainly worth doing and will highlight any camber issues for sure.

The Dyno runs may have accelerated the inner wear, but it does sound like you need an alignment check.

Hmm that explains it.

You need to remember that you have over 700Nm torque being pushed through the back end of the car, when excessive load is applied to the rear components of the car (when I say excessive I mean more than standard, which yours does have) on a regular basis through instantly applying the throttle from standing starts or through burnouts / doughnuts were high torque is held for a prolonged period of time, then this can result in axle/arm fatigue which flexes and over a period of time bends inwardly, I've read a few threads on German and Italian forums where 335d's and i's are running monster power and have suffered this way, usually after more than 20k miles of modification. Unfortuantely the parts that bend cannot be replaced as they are stressed so trying to straighten them would severely weaken them or cause them to just crack and brake. Best bet would be to get this checked out asap as inner tyre wear as prominent as yours is a tell tale sign. I'll try and dig out the threads.

Jules.

Hmmm and he wonders why his tyres are wearing ....

You remind me sooooooo bad of one of the Belper Porsche Crew.

I want to know how you do that in an Automatic?!

Jules I heard of that sort of thing before, not on BMWs though but heavily modded cars that people "drive like they stole", Carlos, do have fun but be careful (with regards to keeping your car mechanically and structurally well), which I'm sure you are anyway!

why cant the parts be replaced Jules? If its an axle arm then a new one can be fitted.

I mean a BMW should be able to comfortable do doughnuts all its life without breaking anything apart from the diff after a while.

You said more or less what I was thinking Porscha

Carlos, I believe you know full well why your rears are wearing luv Jules is right in what he said. I'm sure BMW design and produce most components to tolerances that exceed the 'normal' use they expect the vehicle to endure. That said, I'm a great believer in designed obsolescence, particularly when it comes to mechanical parts such as those 'cycle parts' as mentioned by Jules. Your car has been mapped and is driven 'enthusiastically' - no problem in that. But a car is an inanimate object and needs maintenance. If driven hard, more routine maintenance of certain components will be required. Common sense tells us that.

Bottom line, enjoy your car but play hard - pay hard. Please get a KDS done.

Don't worry Carl. I'm sure it's nothing too serious.

By the way I've just been reading the track day regulations for Snetterton and thought of you:

This includes prolonged deliberate oversteer, or “drifting”. If the driver continues to give cause for concern a second black flag will be given to once again remove that driver from the circuit and he/she will be denied further access to the track for the rest of the day. Deliberate and excessive power slides will be dealt with in exactly the same way.

carlos - take a look at my tyre wear in the fractured alloy topic - my alignment is way out and my car is eating through the inside of rims - you need to get it sorted before you run into the same situation as i am in now - namely BMW insisting i have to get 2 new alloys and 4 new tyres before they re-align my car!

edit: and i can do better donuts than that

The thing that staggers me is that you have destroyed 2 rims by "colliding" with things and you ignored us telling you to get a KDS done at the time ...

Did it not even linger in your mind that the geometry may have been knocked out ???
