Remapped E92 330d vs E36 M3

Had an encounter last night on a dual carriageway, he was intent on showing who was boss..................it was an Estoril blue S reg, so the 321bhp one I think?

Acceleration was identical at all speeds, he couldn't pull away from me but I couldn't gain on him.

God bless my tractor

Lol, Estoril Blue is my favourite colour looks great on the E36 M3, yes it would be the 321bhp don't forget some of that will have been lost over the years.

My next door neighbour has a black E36 M3 3.0ltr (non evo) I really wish someone would shut him up about it being the fastest car in the world

Lovely car in that colour

I just wish I'd left the 330d badge on the back!

Sure is a good feeling!

Next you need to find an E46 M3 Convertible that is willing to play... that will have the same outcome but increased amusement!

Aint going to lose any BHP over the years. Unless its got over 150k and then it will only lose 50-10 odd bhp.

I would imagine thru the gears you would easily live with him. Especially if you have 280bhp.

Nice one mate!!! I can 100% believe it, i done a few when my 335d was stock.

I lost a 911 Carrera S on the M62 2 weeks ago - what a smug feeling

The guys face was a picture as I passed him with ease on a fairly steep incline (all that torque coming into play I guess).

I don't normally get embroiled in that kind of behaviour but he'd been a bit of a prat (quite unusal for a Porker driver IMO) driving up my ar$e in the outside lane for a 2 mile stretch when there was plenty of traffic in front of me.

I pulled over into the middle lane when past the traffic and he flew past and then slowed to 85 in the middle lane, I caught him up and when I indicated to overtake he floored it - back end dropped etc, so I done the same and was surprised how easily I left him.

Porsche was a 52 Plate I think - not sure about bhp but guessing near the 300 mark but not a match for all that D torque - especially on a hill

Phill your right, a carrera of that year would ''only'' have 300bhp. Your 280bhp 330d with all your monster torque would give it a run on a rolling start.

Standing start the porker would have it licked. But rolling 40-140 Im glad you showed him your tailpipes.

i had a blast with a E36 M3 coming on a motorway in ROI and we were toe to toe most of the way to 120 +

nice feeling is right - i had more torque than him, but he was higher revving so had the legs on me in gear changes so to speak.

know a fella with E46 cab - would love a poke against him sometime!

Cars do lose power over the years, I know someone with a Maserati that has.

Anyway back onto the discussion, I do find it rather amusing about the E36 M3

As for diesels beating 911 (996s), yeah I don't doubt it but guess whos having more fun

Would like to see you try to race a super Midge which does 0-60 in 4.2!

OK how much power do they lose? Cars lose power when there a cylinder down etc.

A car with high mileage will maybe only maybe be down 5-10bhp, on a 300bhp or more car.

Some will make more that the stock figure still.

Well theres no set rules and some won't lose power, others will due to a number of reasons one being not maintained properly.

I'm no expert on the matter so either this Maserati didn't have the power to begin with (Maserati was being optimistic) or it lost power over the years!

I rekon they were optamistic. Just because a car is supposed to have 300, but all along one particular example has 280, dont mean its lost 20, might have lost 5 etc.

20bhp is alot to lose...

Now I've read that, it makes more logical sense than the car "just losing power"!
