Music through your DVD slot ( cars with NAV)

Anybody try playing music on their DVD slot ( NAV Disc Slot) yet ?

According to 5 series owners it can play CD's with normal music

The E90 training manual also apparently stated the DVD slot will be able to play MP3 in future, and not the normal slot ( info from a BMW
mechanic )

Worth a try

I just tried a CD in the DVD slot and it worked!! I don't have an mp3 CD to try though.

I guess it makes sense in hindsight. The DVD slot works like most DVD slots; it can handle audio CDs as well as DVDs. So you essentially get a 2 CD changer if you are not using navigation (not likely to be used this way much).

Would be interested to see what results you get when you try an MP3 CD.

What about burning MP3's onto a DVD R. Would it play them? That would hold a whole lot of music....

I kinda wish we could play DVD-A discs... I have a couple and the surround would sound killer in my car with the prem sound pkg. Any ideas if DVD-A is in the future (and would that require purchasing a 9 billion dollar head unit once it's available?)
