Who uses NOCO battery chargers?
My NOCO G750 charger/tender started to melt and was too hot to touch. Manufacture date 2013... So it's around 5 years old. I really think this is a safety issue and if you use one keep this in mind. I contacted customer support and described my issues with pictures. This is their response to the pictures I sent in:
"No, they do not worry us as our units are working as designed if that happens. The fire suppressants and non combustable housing are made to melt like that if there is an issue with them. If they are getting hot to the point of "melting", there is an issue with the charger, but that reaction is exactly as designed to meet the safety regulations we have for our products." I don't consider a 5 year old charger too old. Last edited by avocet; 08-06-2019 at 06:14 PM.. |

Melting is the failure mode. This is what concerns me. Just sharing my experience. I no longer have any trust in this manufacturer.
Just out of curiosity .. do you leave your charger unattended? And a melting charger in your garage doesn't concern you? This unit charges just fine. Obviously I have replaced it! |

I am confused by the manufacturers response. If it’s melting “as designed” to prevent a fire, it’s still considered a failure due to overheating
I don’t leave mine plugged in any more than needed. |

Yeah cteks are great.
Apart from battery diagnostics, switchable desulfication they also have switchable AGM/normal battery mode (AGM requires slightly different voltages). At least mine has. and they are supposed to be very safe. Fire due to battery charging is probably the #1 cause of fire in garages, and other companies that do automotive work. Although I have a ctek, I'm still reluctant to leave my car with the charger hooked on when it sits in my companies building. (when it sits in the garage, it just burns the car and garage down, when it burns my company building down its another matter, even when its insured)
