Question What part is missing from my fender liner?

I picked up a new passenger side fender liner off of ebay for my 07' 335i. Unlike my original one, this one has a big section missing. I'm assuming this is for a vent, or some type of cover?

Can someone tell me what I need to order to cover this big hole?

Garage List
looks like you have a part number on the liner you bought. Look that number up in Realoem and the diagram should show the other parts that go with the liner

I don't think the part the OP bought is OE or OEM BMW. Plastic looks entirely different (shiny and flimsy) and the fitment is different. Maybe it's a different fender liner than my car has, there are a few different versions, but the air deflector does not look OEM. Realoem shows a grille for that area of the fender liner, it's Item No. 17, but for my car it doesn't show up as a part. I checked a 2007 335i on realoem thinking it would have the oil cooler, and the grille P/N still doesn't come up. The OP can do his own research one realoem from this point, but again, the part he bought looks like a non-OEM aftermarket part. The fitment at the bottom of the forward part of the fender has no gaps with the OE part.

If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

Looks like fender with either oil cooler or additional coolant radiator. Looks on right side though so it's the hole for the oil cooler.

I think PN 51717161436 but since you don't have the cooler it can't bolt into anything.

Would that be a good spot to mount an aftermarket oil cooler....or should I just cover that hole in the fender liner, and install a cooler up in front on top of the radiator?

As MidnightNarwhal suggests, you're missing 51717161436 "Air duct oil cooler right" but since you don't have the cooler, you'll have to rig up something for screws to hold the cover place.

I know this because I added an OEM oil cooler to my 335xi which required quite a number of part changes in the wheel well

If you want an oil cooler just get the stock parts and install it in that area. No custom work needed. The large hole is covered by a vented plastic cover, it is not the full duct. There is also a brake duct that is the smaller hole on the bottom left of your picture.

If you want to add an OEM oil cooler, than in addition to the oil cooler itself, the oil thermostat housing and oil lines, you'll need the following:

Air duct front right 51747143750
Front Right brake air duct 51747138416
Air duct oil cooler right 51717161436 (the "cover" for the hole in your liner)
Hex nut with plate (2) 07147144953
Locat. Plate F.Cool.Mod.Lower Right 51647154546
Cover Bottom Right 51717172534 (This is the piece you already bought)
Bracket Additional Cooler 17217540030

Fucking ridiculous! Best sourced from a yard or a wreck.

If you want just the cover, since its screw retainers are mounted on the oil cooler, you'll need to add some clips to the liner to retain the screws holding the cover (which FCPeuro calls "air duct oil cooler right) in place

Just get a 1-gallon milk jug. Cut the plastic to size and color it with a black sharpie pen.

Or for that matter, just forget about it entirely.
