M3 control arms, DIY alignment?
It’s about 40 degrees in nyc, so time for another project.
Planning to install front m3 control arms (replacing stock 325i arms), and just wanted to clarify an alignment question. How can I eyeball the tie rod adjustment? So after installing arms, I would mark the tie rod with a sharpie, then 3 full rotations to extend the tie rods on each side? Would this be good enough to drive a couple thousand miles on? Thanks |

DIY toe alignment should get you close enough until your next proper alignment:

I'd go for string lines from the rear wheels, personally. Set the fronts parallel to the strings, or slightly toe out, and you should be close.
Just counting turns won't get you close enough to drive thousands of miles without ruining tyres. It would get you close enough to drive to an alignment shop though. I have to ask though - why not get an alignment done properly? It has the biggest effect on how your car handles! |

Alignments are cheap, tires aren't.
