Advise on oil change on the 335d

I have just done 10k miles and will be doing my intermediate oil change. I have the oil and filter.

1. Just wondering what type of sump plug is fitted. ie. regular 15mm or 17mm plug or is it an allen key or spline?

Do I need to remove the whole belly tray, or can one access the sump without removing?

Just saves me looking before I start, nothing worse than starting the job, then realising one needs a tool which ain't to hand.

You can access sump plug without removing undertray. There is a hole in it for this purpose.

Not sure on size of nut/bolt. Have a few ready you will be fine. WHOSE GOING TO STAMP ya book? Ya miswah?

Thamks for that, I am not going to bother to stamp the book for the intermediate services. They are just for my peace of mind. The dealer will do all the normal services

coodem,

What oil are you planning to use in your 335d?

I purchased and supplied ‘Castrol EDGE Turbo Diesel 0W-30’ myself, rather then pay for what the dealer was going to put in and saved myself £35.

Well worth buying and supplying your own oil for dealer services!

I bought 4 x 5 litres of this BMW LL04 oil.

Very good price, meets the specification, delivery was prompt and I'm not paying for expensive branding.

My plan is to provide this for the dealer to use when my car requires an oil change at roughly 20k miles

You'll need a 17mm socket.
Look for a trap door, prise it open with a screwdriver, coin etc.
The door does come off which will make the whole process easier.

Done the oil change today, all very easy. Just can't believe how much oil it takes. I put 8 litres in and thats only between min/full on the dipstick. I tried looking in the manual, but it does not say how much oil is required

This included a filter change

Always worth doing an extra oil change IMO, I too will be doing one every 10,000 miles or 12 mths whatever comes sooner then will have the main ones carried out at BMW.
