Audi TTS is a machine!
Hey guys,
I am a big advocate of BMW, however I was recently introduced to the Audi TTS and I must say that I found that car to be rapid and very grippy! The launch control is something else, puts my Z4 to shame! I wonder what would happen if BMW added xdrive to the M40i Z4??? Ps here is a link to a video I made of my friend's TTS if anyone wants to hear/see it? |

I've always liked the TT. I'm a bit surprised they're not more popular but I guess that gives them a bit of exclusivity.

I've been a fan since the second gen, first gen looked like a VW Bug with a chopped roof. Regarding popularity, I think it's due to the price. Similar to the higher-tier Z4s which you don't see many.

I had a 2018 TT that I ended up renting thru turo and I loved that thing. I can only imagine an S would be that much better.

No, it's not. It's being replaced by an EV in the same general genre by 2025. And that's only the beginning of how things at Audi will be much, much, much different in five years' time -- the plan is for 20-30 models to be all-electric by then.
Besides: Audi hasn't said exactly when present-gen TT production will end -- just that it will. For all we know, the current car will be on sale through 2024 -- or, maybe, one more generation will bow for 2021-24. There are even rumors that the TT successor is already serving as a development platform for other VW AG models -- namely, the Porsche 718 and the VW Golf. THAT's the real shame. But that's modern automobile industry, especially post-Dieselgate.

the tts just has another 4cyl 2.0 turbo which does sound really bad for me. it is a common engine which is shared in many audi, volkswagen, seat and skoda. also ktm uses it in the xbow. i prefer the inline 6 of bmw. acceleration with launch control is not a argument for me. specially the tts is loosing boost after reaching 80 mph... the faster you you go the slower it gets. also as a daily... that car is really small sized. the brakes are getting in trouble if you run that car on twisties. specially on the track. not really durable. the tt rs is another level. it is better in many ways but also showed big troubles with handling and brakes. the engine is placed way too much at the front axle. you feel that in every corner. i am not a fanboy but the z4 is the better package. it is one class above. but thats only my personal thinking. we have a lot auf tt's on the german roads so it is nothing special over here. the z4 is more rare see on german roads.

If I had a much larger garage and money to burn, I would find a previous gen TT RS to add that 5 cylinder 6MT combo to my stable.

The TT is imo a very fast car in straight line acceleration but it lacks a bit in cornering speed and handling over all. I would opt for the 5 pot-engine in the RS model because that sound is intoxicating. Overall it‘s a very nice car.

My xDrive has launch control built in, it's in the manual. Maybe it could be coded in?

Hmm, I think i'd rather have a Golf R. I like how the TT looks, but when you can get a very similar car for similar money that's way way more practical, that's the one i'd take.

Of course the R can have a manual (with a comically weak clutch.) |

Okay, mqb platform is really a kit, right, so they are not 100% identical) still very related, though.

That is kind of contradictory though. If you are straight up subbing steel for aluminum, it'll weigh less, but also be less rigid. Aluminum is mostly done for weight. I'm sure they can add reinforcements to make/keep it stiff, it's probably a very modular chassis.

Sports cars are all about making us feel good, whatever floats your boat is by definition the right choice! Anyway, the TTS is still pretty sweet. |
