map / service

my car is booked in on friday for its first service and like everyone else who is mapped i am worried about it being overwritten by the dealer

am i right in asuming

a) the new map would be new software that has been released since mine (dec 07) was made

b) i am less likely to recieve a new map by the dealer becasue i dont have I-Drive ?

thanks

Im in a similar position - had my ECU remapped via OBD port - my car will need servicing when i get back from the Ring - im going to ask Evolve to put original map/software back on - im even considering putting standard exhaust back on - but i would also like to know if dealer will be able to detect ive had the ECU played with?? Ive been told they wont if its back to original software?? Also would like to know if dealer will upload the latest map whilst its in (i do have i-drive)

i wouldnt be removing your exhaust, obvisouly dealers do vary in their tolerance to mods. The dealer i use has been good to me in the past when my (heavily) modded 1 series went back to them for waranty work.

Good luck with yours Bay

You should be absolutely fine.

They will not interrogate your ECU software unless they have a specific reason to. The I-Drive upgrade is correct but am not sure on which model date. Apparently it takes quite a few hours to do a software flash update so if it is just in for an oil service then why not just sit and wait, that way they will just get on with it.

Jules.

waiting sounds good to me ... i will begin to drain them dry of their coffee and buscuits until they get it done

Is it worth the risk though leaving map on?? I'd rather get the old software back on and get them to do the work and then get new map back on. Maybe taking my exhaust off is a bit too much but im definitely getting map taken off. Mind you, just thinking about it, i guess they would just reflash the ecu without realising there was a remap done??? Oh i dont know what to do goddamit!!!!

There is no reason to take it off mate. Your car is going in for a service. If it gets wiped you go get another map. If they dont it save you hassle.

No point getting tuner to take it off then go back put it it on. What a work up.

How can you tell if the car has updated software without i drive - mine has just been serviced so I could check for you if they updated the software as a matter of course.

Why would the dealer want to get out of it, that's a nice profit for them as they charge BMW for all labour and parts. Dealers love warranty work as long as they know they will be paid.

I've lost my map twice (iDrived 335d) - once for a light unit that needed to be integrated into iDrive system and the second time for an iDrive control knob to be replaced, again this blanked it.

Spoke to ChippedUK to reinstate it (which they did no probs) when I took it in they could still see the map but it was partly disabled.. had to upload the map off the car, send it off to the boys in Germany and get a few values tweaked and downloaded it back onto the car and it was fixed..
