Impressive. The I.D. R confirms, among other things, the benefit full utilization of tire-ground contact patch potential. Noteworthy is the use of two electric motors, one per axle.

This is the proper way to establish the potential dominance of EVs. Not the econo-boxes which cruise the street and annoy you on your daily commute.
Convince people the performance is there, and perhaps you wouldn't see shirts like this:

Kudos to VW, for sure.
But the difference between a race car and a road legal car is night and day anyhow, so this proves absolutely nothing (except that an electric car can be genuinely fast...which we already knew). Cool, but meh. |

The whole large capacity battery production with it's high costs contradicts the "safe the world" mantra. Same argument can be made with high powered ICE vehicles. But the latter is not built on the premise of eco-crusades.
It just adds a huge hypocritical angle to performance EVs. |
