Starting without key?

Hi all, a noob here with an 06 325xi... 2 months new for me and loving it.

Today I found this (i think) strange behavior. And, no, I don't have Comfort Access.

After stopping the engine normally with the Start/Stop button, I removed the key fob. Then I pressed the button again and the "radio ready" mode came on (radio turned on). Strange, I didn't know it could do that. For giggles, I stepped on the brake and pushed the button again and... the engine started! Fob is STILL out of the socket! I could shift to D and go (but I didn't go far just to be safe). I could repeat the process even after locking/ unlocking the doors and open/closing the doors. I didn't need to be in "radio ready" mode either. I could just hit the brake and then the button to start the engine. This "hot" period does seem to time-out eventually...it didn't work after the time it took me to fill my gas tank (Shell 93 of course).

This can't be right so I guess I should have it checked out. Just curious if anyone has any idea of the cause (s/w? sticking relay?) or if it's been reported before (nothing in search that i could find).

Cheers!

If you don't open the doors I think the power remains on and the car can start up again.
