BMW performance engine kit. Anyone read tea leaves?

Misleading or portending? The vague description of the "engine kit" with software mods, next to a photo of an E92?

http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...ferential.aspx

While I'm at it, are we certain yet what the suspension kits actually include? What we want is a full-boat, M-sports rear sway (14mm), dampers, control arm, and springs. Note that the description below states a 15mm drop -- this is lower than the 10mm ZSP, so one would think that springs must be included. But as I remember it, Tischer (thank the lord for those guys) is telling us that the perf springs are separate and not in the kit for ZSP cars.

Mr. 5, any info yet on your kit?

Note the dif in price of the 335 & 135 kits:

Performance Suspension [335]
With a tighter, sportier feeling and lower suspension setting of 15mm in comparison with series-production vehicles, the inclusion of a BMW Performance control arm with stiffer bushings gives your 3 Series an almost instinctual feel for the road. With adjusted spring rates and bushings, roll is drastically reduced, creating cat-like quickness, increased responsiveness, and stunning agility. Flexing with the motion of your vehicle around even the tightest curves, a BMW Performance control arm means athletic handling, faster turn-ins, and a totally immediate and much more intense reaction to the tarmac. It delivers a perfect compromise between racing car performance and driving comfort. (PN: 33 50 0 429 574)

My tea reading skills are low. But what the info we are given:

"There’s little doubt drivers pursuing higher performance will become emotionally attached to the BMW Performance Engine Kit. Energized by the kit’s purpose-designed intake and exhaust camshafts, your engine will generate increased horsepower, and turn out more ft-lbs of torque. You’ll experience a quicker 0-to-60, more midrange punch, and an aggressive attack on the steepest hills.

In addition to the camshafts, the Performance Engine Kit includes a software upgrade of engine electronics engineered to completely satisfy your hunger for power."

I would guess this is a complete BMW kit as it alludes to. Intake and exhaust camshaft, and a software upgrade. I guess the question is what car does it fit. As stressdoc says it does show a E92 on the photo but the kit is not available when you select an e90 or e92 or E87 for that matter. Unless I missed it. So I would also guess that you can not get the software upgrade without the intake and exhaust camshafts.

Most of this engine description is for E46 ZHP stuff. This is clearly the case for the engine kit. No way they are going to do camshafts etc. for the N54.

But I still find it curious that they stuck a photo of the E92 next to it.

Wow, this sounds interesting.

However, I wonder if the software mods includes some sort of protection against future upgrades that would "dumb-down" the performance again. (IE: the dreaded 29.9 "update".

That might be an interesting new Mod field? Software that locks out updates you don't want!

No one's talking about the differential, but I assume it's just a higher ratio and not an LSD? Can't seem to find it when I select a 335 as the car for fitment.

I wonder how many MILLIONS of dollars BMW has lost to the aftermarket by not offering a complete array of choices for the E9X? It is going on its fourth year of production (third year for the N54) and the selection of BMW "Performance" parts is just pathetic. The available parts for the 335i are even more pathetic.

They need coil-over choices, BBKs, exhausts, intakes, genuine lightweight wheels (sub 22 lbs.), etc. I for one would gladly pay a little extra (a little, not a lot) for genuine BMW parts (or BMW-approved) that include warranty coverage. Hell, I might even pay more than a little over aftermarket stuff, provided it is just as good.

Because someone's dumb in their ad department. That's all. No tea leaf reading.

What I find more curious is the fact that they still sell E46 performance mods, but hardly any for our cars. And who the HELL would spend all that money for a camshaft for an E46 to get a lousy 10 hp? No way you tell the difference from a regular, non-ZHP E46 with just that. Dumb.

The diff says it lowers the 8-60 time of a stock 330, so I would guess this is for a 330 and not even for a version of the 335.

Considering Buying BMW Performance Exhaust???

Any one put one on their 335? If you did, what are your thoughts? Too loud, too quiet, any highway drone, etc???

Or is it JUST Right?
