Figured I'd start a thread up to show my progress.

I'm building a PC based sim racing rig from the ground up. Literally the only thing I had laying around was a keyboard and mouse

Step 1. THE PC.

My goal for this rig was to build a PC powerful enough to run 3 monitors at 1440p resolution with a usable frame rate. After a ton of investigating, I settled on the following specs:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600X
GPU: MSI 2080 SUPER VENTUS XS OC
RAM: CORSAIR - VENGEANCE LPX Series 16GB
PS: Thermaltake ToughPower Grand RGB 850W
Cooling: GAMDIAS M1A-240R Liquid Cooling
MB: ASUS ROG Strix B450-F Gaming
Storage: 250GB PNY SSD / 2TB WD Mainstream
Case: NZXT H510

Monitors: 3 x Monoprice 27" Zero-G

I also got the seat, I decided on an OMP TRS-E. It was relatively affordable and I can always repurpose it to my car if I decide to go on full track mode

Will post up more as I get more stuff in.

Seems like the new Ryzen 5 is better than my old gen Ryzen 7 1700X. Nice build!

Last bit of goodies coming on Monday!

Fanatec stuff just came in the mail this AM, so its not together yet.

I didnt buy the rubber set, didn't know it was even an option.

Also not pictured, V3 Brake Performance Kit, and Button/sticker set for wheel.

Where’d you manage to pick up the Fanatec stuff? They’re back ordered on most of the stuff you have in your photo. Lucky man..

This is nice! What is the cost of setting up something like this?

Around $7000 all in. From the PC to the audio setup.

Looks great. I ended up doing RSeat in combination with the Fanatec Clubsport set for Xbox One. Really happy with it.

Next upgrade to a PC built. A lot more options available as far as games and mods go!

Can't go wrong with Fanatec gear though, been really happy with my setup.

I was going to go with Rseat as well, but I wanted something more modular I could build on. They do look nice though!

Still need to do some cable management, but mounted my fire hd 7 tablet to use for a sim dash.

Some pics with better lighting.

Feels pretty good behind the wheel. The force feedback paired with the pedal vibrations are pretty realistic.

Did not go with VR for a few reasons.

1) not as many supported Sim racing titles
2) the technology isn't there yet to make it as clear/crisp as monitors
3) it's less approachable as far as "just jump on and drive"

VR is a cool party trick, but I agree on the last 2. It's fun and super immersive, but the jump in and drive doesn't exist, and if you need to adjust anything on other screens, you have to take it off. Want extra telemetry? Cant use it. Biggest thing for me, is I like to follow the fast guys and see their braking points. Unless I'm kissing their bumper, it is impossible to see their lights. Even in races, coming up on lapped traffic, I can't see when slow homedude is braking and it makes it annoying to plan out a pass.

What about minus the PC and audio? (I built a new rig not too long ago)

Tempted to try it in VR, I have a Rift S.

Good to know. I just watched Jayztwocents video and he seemed to love the VR aspect, I haven't played anything racing related on the headset. I'll look into it.

Additionally, with a proper sim that can compensate for the angle of a 3 monitor setup, and large enough monitors, multimonitor is capable of giving you a wider peripheral view area than current VR technology.

The chassis itself was $1000 and all the Fanatec gear was $2000. The seat plus brackets was another $700.
