N55 PWG Overboost after shifting. Help me!
Hi guys! my car is FBO with upgraded turbo (similar to PS2) with GFB DV+ on. we spent lot of time trying to fix this via software tune, but I just figured out that it could be a hardware problem.
has anyone faced it? we can reach boost target 22/23psi on 5thgear but when shift to 6th overboosts to 29/30psi. I m getting crazy with that. sometimes comes DME error: Blow off jammed closed. please help me!!! |

It's due to the way GFB has designed the DV+. The extra spring holds the piston mostly closed after letting off. You can remove the extra spring or get a turbosmart DV.

So, you think using stock spring with GFB valve would work? or best think to do is changing it for a turbo smart blow off valve?

the GFB DV+ installed with the main spring bleeds pressure slowly instead of all at once. can be a good thing especially with a manual car, I chose not to install it because their was a notice claiming it could cause a CEL. installed without the main spring it will perform exactly like the oem DV except it's a lot stronger. I don't see how installing it with the spring though can lead to overboosting, what turbo do you have installed?

The spring I'm referring to is the one on the left.
I can easily see how this could cause overboost. Throttle shuts between gears, DV barely opens, causing boost to spike rather than being vented quick enough.

All PWG cars does this. The throttle closes to compensate so nothing to worry about. I am also running the DV+. Please update us if removing the spring is working.

i have just removed the spring, and surprise: didnt make any difference hahah. I will now try stock valve setup. What gets me worried is, when overboosting to 30psi, it always comes timming correction ariund 8/9 degrees. lets see the stock one.

dont think , you will get rid of it all together . the ewg controller is way faster what would like to see is a datazap of lets say a audi rs3 2.5tfsi , they still have pneumatic wastegate control . maybe its inherent to the bmw design

will do it when I get home. I was trying now with stock Diverter valve... the results, made me think: should I trow my DV+ on trash can or burn it? hahah car feels much better and stable with stock valve. less overboosting. we will work now on tune and finalize it.

Starting to look decent but not finished Tuner #3 - At rev 10 as test revisions to see if can do it. Will start shortly on a proper map. Never had a mechanical issue influencing the tuning process.

right, sorry i meant more specifically to those with PWG and PS2 experiencing overboost. does switching to the one of the turbosmart DV options correct this issue? sounds like those with DV+ are the ones with problems

Did you guys ever get your car running properly with PS2?
I'm working with a tuner and he has never been able to get rid of drivetrain malfunctions. As I look at the logs he is always overboosting by a few PSI |
