Update CIC Navigation Maps (USB Method)

Hi all! I've been meaning to update my 2011 e90's maps for a while now (still on 2010...), but I never made it happen until I saw the thread linked below. Made it sound very easy and straightforward, and it was! Everything worked flawlessly and as described. Super easy. Highly recommended if you have CIC and anything earlier than 2020 maps.

It is very easy if your car meets the prerequisites and you do not have the 123456 vin number problem.

A lot of people experiencing issues do not have a car system that this works for.

Good point - may not work for everyone, but I know it ended up being much easier than I thought, so wanted to share the cross-forum information. Worked on my e70 and e90 LCI.

I just wanted to come on here and thank the OP.

I just got done with my update andI've owned my car for the better part of two years and I kept from doing this cause I was thinking it was difficult, it really wasn't.

I also wanted to address/clear up a few things that I thought of that I didn't see a post on.

OP i believe said he did one of his cars on a battery tender, I did too. Worked well.

When I downloaded the maps from the torrent, it had the NA maps and listed part 1-5.
When I went through the thread I may have missed the confirmation that you only needed part one. I only used part one and it worked well.

I didn't know if I should reformat the usb when uploading the map update to it as it had been used for the 1b file and such, so since there was no clear answer. I formatted it and just loaded the update on the the freshly formatted drive.

My car prompted for the update automatically when it read the usb in the glovebox.

Thanks again!!

To be clear you DO need all five parts of the torrent download... but you only unpack the first one.

The utility you use will automatically continue with the other four to finish.

Your car must meet all of the indicated prerequisites too.

Almost everyone having issues did not pay strict attention to the prerequisites, often trying to update Next, Business and other systems that this does not work on or a CIC with the wrong vintage firmware.
