Bottom line, you can certainly use cruise control for a minute or two to try it out and it won't be any worse than you driving down the highway. |

Check it out right here. Second photo in the thread.
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ghlight=cruise When you engage cruise control, this little indicator comes up around the dial, all the way from "0" to your current set speed. The digital display between the two gauges also displays the set speed for a few seconds. It's cool as all getout...

Cruise Speed Indicator not featured on 4-cyl models without DSC II
I was looking forward to checking out the cruise control set speed indicator on the speedo when I tried cruise for the first time on my 320d a few days ago. I was very surprised to find out that this indicator is not present on the 320d at all.
I am guessing that this is only present on cars with DSC II. Could someone confirm this? What a shame that this is missing from the 320d which is the #1 seller in this part of the world (and not cheap). If it is only on DSC II cars then this would mean the 320d, 320i, 318d, 318i don't have this feature. |

What is DSC II?
So all E90s have DSC II?
As far as I know the 320d doesn't have - auto-drying brakes - hill start assistant - soft stop - cruise with automatic braking downhill - automatic fade compensation - brake standyby function Without these supplementary features is it still called DSC II in BMW-speak. And if so, how does one differentiate between DSC in the 4 and 6 models in Europe? |

4 Cylinder E90 have DSCMk60E
6 Cylinder E90 have DSCMk60E5 Both made by Continental Teves The E60 M5 also has a development of the DSCMk60E5 While "normal" E60 5 Series have the Bosch DSC8 and later DSC8+ EDIT: Their non-technical names are DSC and DSC+ DSC+ has all the extra features like brake drying and is not on 4 cylinder cars

However cruise with braking function isn't a DSC option, but the 2nd of 3 cruise control options offered on the E90. Standard Cruise on the 4cyl models, cruise with braking standard on the 6cyl models, and for the 6cyl models optional active cruise control using a radar sensor to maintain a set distance from a car in front, should you come upon a vehicle travelling slower than the cruise control speed which is set.

Here is a pic of Active Cruise Control working.
Notice the speedo needle is way below the set speed on the outer ring, this is because I was behind a car which was travelling slower at the time. Notice also the car pic in the centre display, indicating that a car has been detected by the sensor, and the 3 bars indicating the selected distance behind the vehicle that I have chosen. If the car in front comes too close and the cruise control calculates it needs more than 1/3 of the braking capacity of the vehicle, the car icon in the centre display goes red and flashes and an alert sounds indicating that the driver needs to take manual control of the vehicle. After 3 long interstate trips with this, it would be very difficult to go back to the normal cruise control.

At the speed indicated, instant economy would have been hovering around 6-7 l/100k. I had reset it at the start of the trip and was travelling at an average speed of about 100-110km/h. You will see the tank is only 1/4 full, it was full at the time I started the trip and the fuel economy was reset. I did the same trip a week later and averaged 7.5 l/100k. I think the engine is beoming more efficient as it loosens up a little.

Yeah. According to the BMW tech specs, it is meant to get about 6.2l/100k on the freeway, but that is at a constant 100km/h I think and with no overtaking --- yeah, like I drive that slow and never overtake anyone
So I don't think I will ever achieve that...

ok i have a question about the cruise control. I have the 325i which i guess would be the 318i? anyways i have nav and all that good stuff. When i use cruise control the picture of the road and car doesnt show up? i noticed a button on my cruise control nob that i pushed several times, but nothing happened. can someone help me out, cause I know the car is supposed to sense the car in fron of it or something, and slow down when it gets too close
