I liken it to good ole fashioned Irish Wake. Respect and mourn the loss of dear life yet celebrate their lives and honor. I hope to think that most Americans think of those brave servicemen and women this weekend who died for their country but I don’t know for sure obviously. If I perished in battle I would hope those that knew me would think of me and drink and have fun while doing so. I would also think most lost fighting for the Stars and Stripes felt the same.
Those are the wishes I told my wife when I go, many, many years from now in my bed.

Yesterday I watched Vietnam in H.D. all day leading up to Grant. One of the reasons I wasn't on here much.
Brought my daughter up watching these documentaries from WW1 and on as I wanted her to get just a glimpse of what these heroes endured, and to appreciate the liberties she has now because of these men and women. It's one of the few things that cause me to "tear up"....I'm not that big of a hard ass. It became a yearly ritual for us...especially when I was single and it was just the two of us. I noticed that she was impacted greatly as she took a huge interest. That's when she connected most with her Grandpa when she found out he had served active duty. She called me yesterday to let me know that she and her husband were watching the same thing. God Bless America Forever!!!!

Five of my high school classmates are listed on the Vietnam Memorial Wall; 4 of whom were in my class of 1965. I was drafted on the same day as one of them. We went through the induction center in L.A. together and shared the same run down hotel room nearby. That was the last time I saw him.
There is hardly a day go by that I don't think about those guys.
