So starting up my car in the morning this 4x4 and abs light turned on. Now Tn when I turned it again only the 4x4 came on. Car runs perfectly fine I'm not sure why the light is on. Any thoughts on what the light could mean or what could be? Thank you guys!

You have a very special BMW, it has started to "transform" into a 4x4 truck. Make sure that you don't scan for codes or otherwise fix it. If you do it will get scared and never complete the transformation. In all seriously scan the bloody car...............

Turn the steering wheel all the way to the left then all the way right. Also I bet your battery is dead.

I don't get why people post "I have a light that says 'problem' what does it mean" and then no other details.

It's like when people post "my computer is slow help"

diagnostics required.

Did you do anything to the car recently.

The speed sensors at all 4 wheels must be working
as well as the DSX and the transfer case.

If you have abilities to diagnose then why on earth would you make this post. These "My car is broken ,HELP!" posts with no information, no codes, no drivablity issues are getting old. If you need help, help us help you.

If I would have been able to diagnose it on my own I wouldn't be asking. I had to go buy a code reader earlier today. The car had no symptoms other than that light on my dash. If I didn't say the symptoms is because maybe there wasn't any. But thank you for the help!

Now that everyone has "vented":

OP, do you STILL have the 4X4 warning light? WHAT Fault Code(s) did you have, or do you NOW have? What Brand/Model Scan Tool do you have, and can it reset Adaptations? Have you tried that?

Just like the SAS (Steering Angle Sensor) may need to be reset (turning Steering Wheel Lock-to-Lock a time or two), sometimes other modules need to be "Reset" or "Initialized" after battery is flat or disconnected.

We'd like to learn something from this thread, and that STILL COULD HAPPEN.

if your battery is dead or disconnected, the steering angle sensor needs recalibrated. there's probably nothing wrong with your actuator.
