Whining noise from the engine drives me crazy!
Hello!
First of all hello to everyone i am new to BMW family and already found one issue which i cant discover! 😊 I own bmw e90 330xi with 130.000km(N52) and when i bought it i changed few things( oil, filters, tensioner+belt, trans fluid and few minor things! Everything was working perfectly untill few days ago come this annoying whine sound from driver’s side! I checked everything car is running normal (no power loss)! Whine comes between 1000-2000rpm the most! I assume maybe there are some of pulleys? Or it can be something else maybe disas, pcv valve? Videos are attached below in the links So i hope you guys maybe can help me diagnose this annoying problem because in next few days i will do whole service and i hope i will found a problem untill then! http://vimeo.com/424634941 http://vimeo.com/424634426 http://vimeo.com/424634799 Regards Grega |

I had a noise very similar to this. Ended up being the oil filter. Yes, I know that makes no sense but really, it was. If you search enough around you'll find other people who also replaced the oil filter and nothing else and it was fixed instantly. Definitely a cheap and easy thing to try.

My AC makes a similar noise. Does it go away when you press the snow flake button to turn of the AC? If not a mechanics stethoscope will find it quickly. I did have minor noise from my idler pullies which are on the drivers side.

Agree, tried the “old way” with screwdriver.. no luck. But like i mentioned now i am waiting for parts to arrive and i will change what i think its the problem ( oil, filters, pulleys, disa’s, pcv and power steering fluid). I am almost sure one of the things went or it will go bad. |

The screwdriver is hard to use for a noise that is not loud. I use something like this. https://www.amazon.com/Lisle-52750-S...YSM/ref=sr_1_3
And some people have fixed the AC noise by recharging the freon. Or by doing a full evacuation and recharge. |

UPDATE!
Today i went to check few things, ending up to take off manifold. Seems that pcv is more or less working normal. Need to say there was little bit of oil inside the manifold but nothing to serious so i guess pcv valve is okay. And of course I checked both of disas and little one is perfectly fine while the big one it’s totally loose! At first i didnt saw no metal pin on the top and i got really scared that maybe fell inside but disas was changed already and it was not original bmw.. so both of them has no metal pin! Tomorrow ill go get new disa put everything back together and i hope noise will go away. I will keep you guys posted And do you guys think it would be smart to replace pcv and hoses also? http://vimeo.com/426797620 |

Howdy guys so first thing first i solved the “whining” problem.. it was disa!
Of course because i had the manifold of i changed CCV + all the hoses( it was pain in the @ss) after i started slowly to assemble everything back together.. took me some time because i was doing it alone but after few hours i got car back together And when I wanted to start up the car.. heh nothing happened, all the control lights came on i hear starter and fuel pump doing its thing but no crank. I checked the fuses, relay, battery everything possible! And i already didnt know what to do and i try the one last possible thing(check if some cable was accidentally disconnected) I took away motor air filter housing and pipe all the way to throttle and luckily i saw one male pin laying on the bottom of an engine! Plug that back inside and car started And after test drive i need to say car is much more responsive and driving well without and whining sounds! So we can say problem solved! Thank you guys for all the help! I appreciate it |
