Even though i own a 335i, i DO hope the diesel wins, otherwise we will never hear the end of it from a certain DXB owner!!!!! That said, regardless of who wins, i'd still always buy the petrol every day of the week!!

And whichever car wins the race, both cars are true winners and better than the "competition". It will be an intersting read.

Me too, great magazine with many affordable cars reviewed, only problem is I tend to fancy a change of car after reading it each month

Be interested to see the results and how they test the 2 cars, roll on 16/10

Now I have the benefit of hindsight and having owned an S3 like yourself the decision for me would be easy - I would take the 335i petrol purely because you can have a manual box for that extra driver involvement, if BMW started to produce the 335d with a manual box then this would reverse the decision.

Performance and handling are spot on in either model but the extra mpg is a bonus.

I'm currently looking to sell the wifes car, give her the 335d to use znd keep it as our main car and buy something like a sub £20K hot hatch to thrash around in, looking at a lovely 3 yr old GTI , 11k miles, black, lthr, xenons, 6 disc, cruise - £12k private at least then I wouldn't worry so much about the cost of track insurance etc, I love the 335d but need a manual in the household (wifes car is DSG too !!)
