wait on the new A5 TT roadster out next year, you'll get a DSG tranny, 0-60 under 6, and AWD, for what I am going to assume will be a fairly reasonable price.

under 50k...definitely base Porsche Boxster...it's not perfect but that classic engine note and awesome handling/feel makes it the obvious choice...

I'd get the latest M convertible (with MSRP of 49,999) but if I was to save several grand, I'd get the Lotus Elise convertible.

Chrysler Crossfire SRT-6
Err..its at 50K if you're willing to go a little bit above budget, this car is FAST. I have the Crossfire Limited and it is fast, and thats 215hp and 230lbs/ft torque. The SRT-6 is somewhere around 315HP I think, that thing is a beast :]

Lots of choicem would love to be in that position to choose...Again, I'd pick the 987 Boxster (very light on the options list), Honda S2000, Lotus Elise or the BMW Z4 3.0Si. I believe the M Roadster, M3 'vert and SLK 280/350 are outside the 50k budget. The Nissan 350Z is still too nasty inside to consider although that VQ engine makes all the right sounds. I wouldn't consider the Crossfire. What about the Saturn Sky/Pontiac Solistice duo...for 50k (well if you can get them at MSRP) that'll leave some change to buy a Honda Civic Si or Miata for track days...
