Run Flats Need to Go . . . Quick Easy Explanation . . .

Hey there, one of my back runflats is loosing silly amounts of pressure (10psi) every week, and i can't find anyone with Bridgestones in stock to straight swap out, so . . .

Was wondering if someone could tell me a really simple process to swapping the runflats out for normal tyres, am on the M-Sport 19" rims.

Currently the tyre sizes are 225/35/19 255/30/19

What are the simple steps I need to do to change over to normal tyres.

Three places I've called have said I can't do it, I know otherwise I just want a concise listing of what needs to be done.

Ta

Going into BMW Battersea on Monday hopefully they'll sort all the other problems !

Normal tyres will fit onto the alloys. No problem. However, if you're running the lovely looking 225M alloys, just make sure that the reason for the pressure loss is not hairline cracks in the alloy wheel itself.

There have been a large number of 225M alloys cracking under stress from stiff sidewall RFT's and potholes etc. I think there was a thread on it somewhere and a formal response from BMW.

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=170979

No point changing your tyres if it's the alloys at fault.

Cheers
Matt

I have exactly the same wheels as you, running exactly the same tyre sizes.

I changed over to non-run flats approx 6 weeks ago and cannot recommend it enough.

In terms of 'what' needs doing - nothing. The wheel design will quite happily take a run flat or non run flat tyre as it is. Any garage saying you can't do it is talking our of their hole. Those garages saying they "can't" do it actually mean they "wont".

Soooo many people are migrating over to non-run flats because, whilst it is improving, the tyre technology of runflats lumbers you car with, by comparison, flat-footed handling, excessive noise, a crashy ride and not great grip.

When I first had mine done, I thought there was something wrong with the car, it felt all over the place - after some driving I realised this was how the car should handle - alive, delicate, direct - the run flats make the E9X feel like a hobnail boot, when with PS2's on it it feels like a ballet shoe.

Go for it - if the monkey's you've spoken to already try to dissuade you or tell you that you can't do it, you're speaking to the wrong people. Find someone decent and the enjoy your car the way it should feel.

You just need to find a tyre fitter willing to do it - I had 2 say no to me.

Ride quality and tramlining improve a lot, but handling sharpness reduce a tad - noticeable but not an issue for me.

Either use a can of tyre weld goo that you have remembered to put in the boot, or call the AA
