Mattresses
anyone recently research mattresses and find a product you liked ?
I'm reluctant to order any mattress I can't inspect first (Avocado) - easy returns notwithstanding. I've tested some Klufts and Shifmans that I like and would use on a box spring on a Knickerbocker frame. What is messing me up is a Purple mattress I tried for a second time today and it really eliminated any pressure points like I seemed to get on pricey coil spring (my girlfriend hates memory foam) Thing is with the Purple is so basic. Anyone have a Purple Mattress and recommend it? |

We bought a Tuft and Needle king sized Mint about a month ago. Nothing to complain about, feel a lot better in the morning now. Had a Sleep Number before and hated it with a passion. The bed is pretty firm but it's apparently what we both needed. The Sleep Number was way too soft and over rated by far.

I have the Avocado mattress with pillow top. It sleeps hot and is firm. I also don't like the dimples. Currently using the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora. The coolest mattress I've ever slept on.

Well I have one more good thing to say about Tuft and Needle. I contacted them about the sale they were having for the 4th to see if I could get the difference off of my purchase I made a month ago. They credited me $274! I saw when I ordered if there was a sale within 100days they would give you the difference if asked and they did. Pretty happy!

Latex mattresses have really improved my sleep quality vs memory foam (even with cooling tech). I found it rides the perfect middle ground of cooling, supporting, but not sinking.
Currently using a Brooklyn Bloom and have we a Dreamfoam Willow (cheaper brand from Brooklyn Bedding) in the guest room that is equally comfortable. |

I built my own latex mattress w/ 3 3" layers ... firm(dunlop), med(Dunlop) and soft(talalay). Purchased the layers from SleepEZ.

You use a bed every night, so don't go cheap. You don't have to spend thousands of dollars either. It's tough to cross shop because each store has their own model number for the same brand. It's also important to lie down on a mattress for about 15 minutes. I'd even bring my own pillow.
I found the best selection at Macy's Furniture. I've now had two Stearns & Foster beds and love them.

^I'd echo the echoer. Gotta spend a lot of time lying on them, don't be self-conscious so take time to really feel how they are... Everyone is different, obviously, so determine what type you like and go from there.
Also, there seems to be a bit too much emphasis on brands but I'd rather focus on the mattress type, many stuff are outsourced anyway so pay for good quality but don't get ripped-off.

After sleeping on and enjoying a waterbed for decades, we purchased a Nectar mattress, pillows, and mattress pad when we moved into our new house almost three-years ago. At the same time we bought one for our daughter and a Zinus for the spare bedroom. I've slept on a lot of fancy name-brand mattresses at finer hotels over the years but after three-years I have to say I've never encountered any as comfortable and supportive as the Nectar. We've recommended them to several people and they've all been very pleased. The Nectar comes with a 365-day free return (100% free) and a "lifetime" guaranty. The Zinus was a lot less expensive and our guests seem to like it fine. I've not spent an entire night on it, but I have tried it for a quick bit and it's pretty good for the money.
Oh yeah, the Nectar pillows are first-rate. I used to be an all-down 2-pillow guy and the single Nectar is now my favorite. The pillows are included free with the mattress. One of the couples who bought their first Nectar recently also ordered two Nectar dog beds as part of their package deal and say their dogs really seem to like them. I would never have imagined that as a sideline for a mattress company! |

What level of soft/firmness did you get? I got the cassette ultra plush back in March and I’m loving it so far, the eurotop sinking a bit at my midsection when I lie flat helps as I don’t use a pillow.

We have had the purple mattress for five years now. We absolutely love it. Note, we are mostly back and side sleepers.

Can’t say anything about any specific brand, however I have found I never like any of the memory foam mattresses we have purchased (2) or have slept on at airbnbs.
At home a friend who use to work at a mattress store hooked me up with a high end latex mattress. I can’t remember the brand, but I think it’s pretty pricey and not something I would have bought if I was paying that kind of $$ for it. However I will say it’s my favorite mattress from all the ones I’ve owned or slept on. At the house in NC we went through 2 memory foam mattresses we hated. One from Walmart and one we had ordered online. Both relatively cheap. Finally we ended up ordering a hybrid which is suppose to be memory foam but also has regular springs and what not. It’s much more plush and soft compared to the other two and we really like it. It was also fairly inexpensive. |

I have the Purple 4 and love it. I went down the rabbit hole and bought their pillows and sheets as well. I'm a side sleeper that sleeps hot and have no complaints after 3 years with the mattress.

I have a queen Bear mattress and it is extremely comfortable for me. One of my exes had a legit Tempurpedic and it was solid as well (for back/side sleepers), but it was almost 3x the price of my Bear. a little TMI but some night time activities were not that great on the Tempurpedic. I guess it all depends on what you're looking for.
