Is that the home theater system with DVD?
Are these the available inputs and outputs?

Inputs: 2 composite video, 2 stereo audio, 1 digital coaxial audio, RF

Outputs: 1 component video, 1 composite video, 1 S-video, 1 stereo audio, 1 digital coaxial audio, 1 video monitor, 1 preamp

To get video from the system to your plasma, use component since there are no HDMI outputs. For audio, does your plasma have digital coaxial audio output? If so, use that.

If you're gonna watch DVD, might you consider a upconversion DVD player or a Blu-Ray player. PS3?

DVD, DVD-R/-RW, CD, CD-R/RW playback; MP3, WMA, MPEG-4 and JPEG playback from Secure Digital or MultiMediaCard using built-in card slot

Inputs: 2 composite video, 2 stereo audio, 1 digital coaxial audio, RF

Outputs: 1 component video, 1 composite video, 1 S-video, 1 stereo audio, 1 digital coaxial audio, 1 video monitor, 1 preamp

you can use s-video but the picture quality is not as good as a good component video cable. You don't NEED a better dvd player but that is always an option. Blu-ray is the way to go now if you want better picture and sound quality from your movies.

You can run the video thru s video. My first choice would be HDMI, 2nd is Component, 3rd would be s video.

Since your plasma is hi def, a upconversion DVD player would be worth it. Or just a get a Blu-Ray player. I believe they also upconvert DVDs. Playstation 3 will be your best option. A upconversion DVD player will make DVD look nicer on a hi def tv.

Check out monoprice for cables. You can also visit avforum.

Which plasma did you get? And watch out for the burn ins.

If it's component video than straight to the tv will be better unless you're planning on using the system as a AV switch. All depends on how many available inputs you have on the tv and what kind.

Does the dish network box have HDMI? If so, use that. It provides sound also. But you can always turn off the tv speakers through the settings on your tv and have sound come from the system.

And remember, don't let them talk you into those expensive monster cables.

the current dish receiver is just component wires, but in a couple months im gonna go all out with the HD, getting the HD dish receiver, the surge protector and the HD wires,

maybe i should just stick to the tv speakers for now =/
