N52 Oil Leak Under The Car
Hello, I’ve noticed my 325i is leaking oil at a pretty serious pace. I was able to spot the leakage from 2 points underneath the engine.
Here is a picture of it: View post on imgur.com What can this be? This amount of oil pooled up in a matter of 5 minutes. |

That picture no help. Get the under tray off and take a better look. Look on top of the engine under the engine cover towards the passenger side. Possible valve cover leak or oil pan

Spread some plastic wrap on the ground to capture the drippings, and at least you'll be able to determine what is leaking, engine oil, trans oil, brake fluid, or power steering fluid.

Agrees with above. Pictures dont show anything. You need to remove tray and see where the source is. Ie. valve cover could leak all the way down block; oil pan can make it looks like rear seal is leaking.

Take off the undertray then you'll likely be greeted by a moist sight like my oil pan lol. But that seems to be maybe rear main by it's location

If the location of the leak is near the back (near Transmission) then it would be from the transmission. If not, the oil leak can be from the oil pan or possibly from the valve cover. If incase it is from the valve cover, you may notice smoke because it would leak directly on the exhaust but in most cases, it is the oil pan.

I agree with this. It's pointless to be looking for the leak if you don't know for certain what fluid is leaking. Find out if it's engine oil, trans fluid or power steering fluid first and then you have a better idea where to look for the source. From the picture it looks too black to be coolant.

I took a peek under the stabilizer plate on my car, just below the front of the oil pan. It's absolutely gnarly under there! Next oil change I'll take it off to see whats up.

Just replaced all my oil pan gaskets, also on sensor and the 328xi tru-axle axle seals. That was a lot of work but it was very necessary. What a mess. 120k. That completed the replacement of all leaking seals. See you in another 80k. Lol
