Atf change and filter change for n52 at dealership price?

I just got a 50% off any service (excluding oil change and tires) from my local bmw dealer, up to 200 dollars . I have never taken my car there to be serviced, just buy parts and fluid. My question is how much is a regular atf change and filter change at a bmw dealership? Could be worth using the 50% off just so I don't have to get under the car and get dirty for once lol.

My dealer wouldn't quote me a price to change my ATF and filter. He said it's sealed and "lifetime fluid" so it's not required.

You could show them the service book which stipulates it's to be changed every 100K miles...

Just called and they it is a service they perform, the deciding factor will be when the service advisor calls me back with the quote, (assuming the 50% off will make it comparable with a Indy shop regular quote but I could be wrong we'll see)

The parts are only like 45 dollars on fcp euro I believe if it's anything over 200 dollars with the 50% off I'm doing it myself

Here in the UK I was quoted full flush with fluid, and filter pan change for £350 all in at a tranny specialist. Cheaper without the flush, maybe £250. This seemed comparable with other costs I read about. Dealer more expensive for sure but anything over £500 is surely taking the piss I did it myself and it was indeed doable and messy but parts cost about £150 so an extra £100 for a specialist to do it actually wasn't that bad in hindsight. I would think your idea to use the discount on this is a fairly good idea.

Wat? the FCP kit is 100 for the parts (assuming you don't change any of the mechatronics related seals) and an extra $100 for the fluid.

But guaranteed a BMW dealership will quote you at least 1k for the work. It's not hard to do yourself, you just need a vac pump

Good call on choice of service for the coupon.

As you probably know, it’s kind of a messy job with a very specific procedure that must be followed exactly. Would be great to have someone else do it for you.

I think I saw 45 for a filter and gasket minus the fluid

I don't think it's worth it going to the dealer. Looks like the best price for the kit (filter, o-ring and pan gasket) is on RM European then. They also list the plastic pan for ZF under the same car, so make sure yours is really GM (take a peek).

Febi filter $12.28 24117593565
Meistersatz pan gasket 24117572618 $17.05

Beck Arnley has a kit #044-0368 that lists $36.89-$45.88 online (Summit Racing, Rockauto, Amazon).

For fluid I use Valvoline Max Life ATF. It is around $20 a gallon at Wally World. Drain and refill takes just shy of 4 qts. I think with filter it is 5-6 qts can't remember for sure. Therefore parts, shipping and 2 gallons of Max Life you are looking at around $100.

I have changed the mechatronic sleeve o-rings for our ZF 6HP (and the "double D" seal and 4 tubes). The sleeve o-rings turned mushy and were a different material than the black o-rings used on the GM sleeve. If you are dropping the pan, might as well do it. The access to the external connector is a little tight even on our FWD.

Here are some DIYs. On AWDs I imagine you are going to have a transfer case and driveshaft blocking a few more things:

Take it to my house. I charge you a case of two hearted ale from Costco. The total job including my beer will be under $100.

$40 aftermarket parts
$27 for 6 quarts of Valvoline Maxlife
$32 for case of beer

If you buy an aftermarket pan, I suggest don't use their bolts. I had issue torqueing them to 89inlbs. It seemed like some bolts required much less torque and some require more. I used the original bolts removed from the old oil pan, everything went smoothly. I guess you pay for what you get.
