Drivetrain Malfunction N55 F30 335i

I started receiving the drivetrain malfunction in my 335 a little while ago and now I’m getting it everyday. Typically I will go out to grab food and drive about 5 miles away. Everything runs perfectly. Then on my way back home I always get the malfunction like clock work.

Pulled these errors from the in car menu but they haven’t been very helpful.

I’d like to do the work myself but I’ve read mixed reviews on the software needed to diagnose this issue and wanted to see if you guys can give any advice? Will I need ISTA software or can a go well take car of it?

imo ISTA+ is going to be your best bet to diagnose

You can try googling those error codes but ideally you need to connect to the DME and read the actual codes with descriptions. You will need the the correct dongle to connect to the OBD2 port (USB, wifi, bluetooth, etc) and an app, some of which are free for code reading at least. ISTA is of course the more detailed software, but not necessarily required for basic repairs that don't require coding, etc.

You should also describe what symptoms the car has, if you have any mods, your mileage, what led up to the problem, etc.

Thanks for the quick replies. Here is some additional detail.

Replaced the valve cover and valve cover gasket about 8 months ago and at that time we replaced the spark plugs. I started getting the drivetrain malfunctions a few months after that repair and it would only occasionally happen either on long drives or every couple weeks. I’d stop the car, turn everything off, restart, and everything worked perfectly. All power felt like it was there. The error started to show up more and more where I’m receiving it every day now. When I restart the car to clear the error I have no issues following that I can tell. Full power is there. No shaking. But then error kicks in and it’ll go limp.

110k miles
Only mod is a BMS stage 1 plug n play

B7F668 appears to be hard to find. One person had this and it was a pinched line from the fuel system.

The E114BE is just related to invalid signal for the dash - I have this as well, because of XHP.

I recommend getting ista and scanning the car. There are probably codes not being shown by the car.

If it were my car, id stop driving it until the error is addressed. Go to an indy and ask them to scan the codes.
