Accidentally put it in Park...

While I wasn't at a full stop...
The car made a crack crack crack noise, and came to a complete stop.

Will this damage my car or do any major harm to it? Something to have the dealer check-up?

You might have damaged the parking sprag. Think of it as putting your finger in a fan. When the car is stopped and you put it in park, it's like putting your finger into a stopped fan. Even if the fan tries to rotate, your finger is holding it still. This is how park works in the trans.
Now, when the car is rolling and you put it in park, it's like having the fan spinning and sticking your finger in it. You're going to get hurt. Now this won't cause any driveability problems, but depending on how bad the damage is, the sprag may not be able to hold the car in park as well as it used to.
How fast were you going?

No you did not damage your car. I did MUCH worse to a loaner I had. I rammed it into park going about 15mph. That sound is the locking pin skipping over the holes. Yes, if you keep doing it you will break something.

I was going like 1-3km max. It's probably fine and I'm just over-reacting.
Thanks for the information.

And why would you put the gear in park at 15mph again?

I think he was talking to me. The car was a loaner so I really did not care. Everybody's level of mechanical sympathy is different and mine is certainly pretty low to rentals. LOL

I also got it to throw a "window fault" code when my friend tried to prevent the window from rolling up. That key fob will have an intereting story to tell.

That sentence is too complicated. It should be, "Simple mind simple pleasures."
