iPhone 3g/BMW bluetooth prep
Does anyone know if a 3G iPhone fits in the BMW dock (designed for the original iPhone)? Also, should the stereo pick up the phone (via bluetooth) even if it's not in a dock (yet)??

I believe there are two docks available and quite pricey. £55 for 1st gen and £90 for 3G. The dock connector in the 3G phone is different to all previous docks. I don't use a dock with my 1st gen iphone, just the 'y' cable and USB prep for music. The Bluetooth works with or without a dock/cradle.

Yea I wouldn't bother with the dock, it doesn't allow space to connect the phone to the aux in/usb... so essentially your buying a cradle that only allows charging and a bit better signal.
I think we should get a group buy together on the 2point5 dock and BSW connector, looks lovely and works (apparently). |

I have the 3G iPhone and the Bluetooth Phone Prep and also the 6FN for the iPhone.
With Bluetooth, phone fullys synchs and works with car (except text messages), but you cannot play music. With the USB and 3.5mm jack and y cable - again all works including music now, but iPhone has got to be put into play mode before mounting to play music. I've not tried the doc, but would like to know what it does. My conclussion so far is (buy a 16GB memory stick - £16 and use that for music), and use bluetooth for the phone and the cigar lighter for power if necessary. Better still, load the mp3s off the memory stick onto the internal hard drive which has 14GB spare for music.
