WTF?!?!? My car is scheduled for production 1 month ahead of schedule!??
car: '09 335i coupe e92
Okay, my CA promised me, even SHOWED me on the computer, my scheduled production was week 47 or week 48 (basically last week of November). I told him I wouldn't be picking up the car until the end of the year. (personal issues) So basically, I took a dealer's production slot (goes into their system modifies the car's specs based on mine), not a complete custom special order). Anyways... everyday, I'm wondering if owner circle lets me add my production number. Just tonight, I am able to add my car!!! However, the status says it is "scheduled for production". When i CALLED the 1800 BMW number, the automated system told me it is scheduled for production and scheduled TO BE completed by "October 20th" !!!! ????? What?!?!?!??? Is BMW trying to push all orders ASAP for priority-1 customers? If it is completed by October 20th, a 1-month boat trip means this car will be here by the end of november. it could be sitting at the dealer for 1 whole month in december before I pick it up!!!? See that is why I specifically asked them to produce it last week of November, so I would time it as best I could...to pick it up towards the end of the year. anyone experienced this issue? |

I would venture to guess a coupe of things.
1) The factory where you car is produced may be scheduled to go "idle" during that time. http://www.industryweek.com/ReadArti...rticleID=17538 2) It will take more than 4 weeks to ship to the West Coast (unless you are doing Performance Center Delivery). I think West Coast is more like 6-8 weeks than 4. Hope that helps. - J

I just called the 1800 number and got an operator.
He told me my car's in paint shop and he gave me my VIN. Looks like its too late to make any color changes now =] just last week, I was still deciding to switch from AW to TSM or SG. |

Me too. Two weeks aheadof schedule.
My scheduled for week 44 car has started production today.(week 42) I'll be out of country when it arrives and am concerned re: sales guys offering test drives or service installing front plate. Also I won't be able to inspect it. I'm gonna give my girlfriend power of attorney and exact amount cashiers checks so she can pick it up. Hopefully she won't over rev it on the way home as it is M-DCT which defaults to manual mode. Doc
I'd hate to have it sit on the lot in the mean time. |

thats why i had specifically "timed" the car to arrive at the precise weeks that I want to pick it up. It is now 1.2 months completely ahead of schedule. But then again, I'm not sure. My CA assured me if it did arrive early, he would keep the keys and no-one could touch it. The car would be stored in their multi-story parking structure. (I've personally seen and went into one at the dealer. Its prety huge) Also, i might not worry too much. At new century al hambra bmw, a 3series had a white paper on the windshield that read "Customer Sold". So i'm guessing they'll usually do that and not let other people to drive it. |

Yes
We're probably being a little too obsessive. I guess delays in transport etc. will be a good thing for us. Perhaps you could have a friend drop by when it's delivered to check mileage and put your own sign on it. Of course a year from now none of this will matter.
I've seen the Alpine white on the road in the 335 coupe and it is truly stunning. I noticed it about a half mile ahead on the freeway. It had 18's and made me think twice but I already ordered titanium silver. |

Same thing happened to me. I wanted the car to be built in Oct and the dealership put it in for Sept. I was kinda pissed, but it turned out to be okay timing.

when i ordered my 08 last aug of 07, it arrived at the dealership on Oct 20, 2007. I believe it's written somewhere that I had to pick it up within a certain number of days or else they would be able to sell it to someone else. Whether that is a general rule or dealership specific I do not know for sure.
I just know that at the time when I ordered it, I was hoping that my car would arrive later so I could get the updated money factor rates for my lease which was going to drop in Nov. I don't remember if it did though. haha |

Nuke, I have the same exact issue. I was told a production of mid november so I could get it when I return from Iraq around Xmas.
The car is currently awaiting a vessel to ship it over here....So the car was basically bumped up 3 weeks in the production cycle. However, im pretty happy that it is complete and just waiting for me to get back. I wouldn't give it that much thought, just be happy its built and started its journey home. I dont think anyone is going to pull a Ferris Bueller on you... |

My vehicle is currently on the M/V Turandot somewhere between the Panama Canal & due in to the Oxnard, CA port on the 3rd of November... NM dealer a week later. The car was put into production 2 weeks earlier than planned. The car had completed production just 2 weeks after I placed the order with the dealer.
Vehicle is a 335i xDrive Sedan, Space Gray, Gray Leather, Light Burl, Cold Weather, Premium, Sport, STEPTRONIC w/paddles, Navigation, Rear shades, HD, iPod, Logic7, Satellite, Park Distance, Console mounted phone adaptor, Open non-smoker’s tray. Just another week or so to wait. |

What we are saying is that we won't be here when it arrives at the dealer. I'll be out of the country for a few weeks. Concern is what happens while it's at the dealer.
