Dorch STG1 Pump Noise - Issue solved!!!

Hi,

Update by 1/23/21

***Issue solved***. The solution is to adjust the rail pressure parameters in Dorch Pump accordingly......

=============

I have been running this upgrade pump with STG2+ OTS map over the few weeks now. I started getting annoyed the ticking noise from the engine when I push throttle at lower RPM inside. I recorded below video for my shop and they couldn't find anything wrong. Sometimes it's very loud but sometime you can't hear at idle.

Do you have the similar issue? Solution?

Sounds like maybe the belt tensioner pulley/arm?

The shop checked everything fine. The problem is that I can't hear this exactly noise every time when I open the hood. So they couldn't hear the same noise today except watching my video.

I also reached out Chris from Dorch and he stated it's complete tune related issue and working with BM3 to specify the specific STG1 pump in the config table now but no ETA. He stated this noise could be reduced by modified tuned table etc. It's getting frustrated to hear this crazy noise inside the car...

I mention the tensioner bc I had a semi-similar intermittent sound, thought it was the HPFP, but it wasn’t: https://1drv.ms/v/s!AgigEV_O62WJgqNIUii_55GKrIV3Ow

It wouldn’t make the sound all the time, but if I put a long flathead screwdriver on the tensioner and the other end on my ear you could hear it quite clear. Went away once it was replaced.

Your sound is slightly different, so maybe/maybe not your issue but I haven’t had any noises coming from my Dorch Stg 1.

This is the rail pressure in the hpfp. It happens more when it's colder. Nonetheless, my tuner said it was harmless

I had the same issue with my xdi-35 if you look through my threads.

The solution is adjusting parameters in your custom tune.

Yep. It used to bother the hell out of me. You can find more on the topic by looking up "hpfp cricket noise"

Same sound as mine. Changing the tensioner fixed it. Confirmed with my high tech screwdriver sound tool.

That's why Chris from Dorch stated it's related for tune. How do you solve the issue? I'm running OTS map and Halim sent me the stock tune file and ask me send over to Dorch to modify it directly. But I'm confused why the stock times file?? Any suggestion?

That's exact like mine noise, and yes it happened when you just started the car and it disappeared after that or multiple startup.

IDK guys, this will be incredibly coincidental that I had the same noise, we tracked it to and changed the tensioner, and it went away with no other changes.

I’ve driven my car quite a bit since then and the noise hasn’t come back.

Hmm.. well OP, I'd try getting the tune adjusted since it'll be free. That's how mine was fixed.

If it's still making noise, try and reach the tension belt and put some water on it. If it stops, the belt is bad and needs replacement.

Since I don't have the custom tune, I'm stuck due to run OTS map now. Halim just sent me mine stock tune file and I have no clue how it will work overall with STG2+ map, any idea?

It’s 100% the pump, I have the same issue. It also gets worse the colder it is.

I sent some logs to Chris when the issue occurs and he could see in the logs it was indeed the pump. I believe it’s the rail pressure that needs adjusted.

He said they were working on the fix for the bm3 Dorch hpfp selection and shouldn’t be too long. It was the same with the b58 pumps and they are now apparently silent.

Interesting. Maybe I got some free warranty work done...

Will let you guys know if my sound comes back, before the Dorch HPFP updates.

Hi Daleb and Zack,

I'm so pleased now because the new updated map from Halim and Chris from Dorch just solved this noise issue completely. Basically Chris modified my rail pressure parameters for stock tune file then Halim did the special work to integrate for me right after I received the updated file from Chris this morning(Sat). They're the man and both of them stand behind their product and support 24/7.

My idle seems to be more stable and the car runs way better than before. It's totally daily drivable condition without any additional noise. My Remus seems to sound more meaner and deeper, the overall just goes together I will say. Now I'm set for the performance and moving into exterior and suspension mod...

You won't regret STG2+ map and Dorch pump at all. I want to thank you Daleb and Zack for this whole during since day one of this STG2+ concept.

Glad you got a solution, it’s definitely annoying and I’ve kinda been driving around it and just patiently waiting for the fix to be released.

If it hasn’t been rolled out by the time I get back from work in a few months I’ll reach out to support and ask for the same solution as yourself.

Thanks for the update 👍🏼

JKen_0115 Nice!

I just took my car out for some v5.9 logs, will post in the Stg 2+ E30 thread. No HPFP noises, but I'll still reflash once Halim pushes the new Dorch settings out to everyone.

Thanks guys!

Out of curiosity, did the noise show up on your logs? What did the rail pressures look like?

Daleb May can share more from the log aspect. I didn't use the log to work with Chris but sent the video to describe the noise issue. Chris is well aware this issue though.

This is the log I sent Chris at Dorch and his response:

"Perfect, thanks for the log! That’s exactly what I thought it was. We’ll be wrapping up the N55 updates fairly soon. In the meantime I’m sorry about the crickets! It’s not anything that will cause any problems, but it’s definitely annoying and the updates will solve it."
