Awesome Driving Roads
I will start this thread off with just a couple words for So. Cal. people...
Topanga Canyon I took Topanga Canyon Blvd. (on the map linked above its the twisty road going through Topanga State Park) from the PCH to the 101 tonight. Notwithstanding the stupid stupid old lady in an SLK doing 20mph for 5 minutes in front of me until I found a place to pass safely, this was a FREAKIN AMAZING drive. I just had a blast. And the car is stuck to the pavement like glue, it inspires so much confidence. Never drove a car like this before. Well, I am particularly interested in nice twisty roads to drive on in the Seattle, WA area as I'll be up there within a week. But this thread is for everyone everywhere so post up your amazing roads to get the most out of our E90's

It doesn't help you with Seattle, but California Motorcycle Roads is one of my favorite resources for local driving roads.

The road even on the way to SLO is awesome , twisty and smooth, you can easily hit triple digits. I will have to try Topanga Canyon, I thought it was still full of bad road and potholes from our record rain this winter.

There was an area where we had to slow down for the town and some bad roads but most of it was fine if I remember correctly.
Last night on that drive I was finally making nice use of the manual function of my Steptronic transmission and was liking it. Then today I went and test drove the Audi A3 with DSG, a car my cousin is considering, and... WOW! I am utterly and completely jealous of the DSG transmission in that car. I have never seen anything like it. It shifts gears with video-game like quickness. Its so fast and seamless that you see the numbers change in the dash and you're like "OK now when are you going to change the gear?" In 0.2 seconds its over, quicker than you could ever slam in the gears on a manual. And you have paddle shifters. What I would give to have that transmission in my car! It beats the SMG from here to Timbuktu. ATTENTION ALL E90 OWNERS: Do not test drive any Audi vehicles equipped with DSG transmissions. You will be jealous, whether you drive stick or auto.

I had the pleasure of driving Topanga Canyon road last October when on a business trip. Took it from Augora Hills to Malibu and back - in a crappy rental. And it was still a great drive! I can only yearn (do you ever yearn?) to drive my E90 on that road! |

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1705 I live less than an hour from this road but didn't know it existed until I found this site. Very good resource. I know most of the great roads near Santa Barbara, but up in San Luis Obispo County I was a little lost, so when I moved up here, I started looking at this site for ideas... Can't wait to do Ft Hunter Liggett/Ferguson Rd. Big Sur is a must for everyone that can possibly make the drive at some point in their life. If anyone lives in or goes up to the Eastern Sierras (near Mammoth) I can let you in on a little "secret" I know about up there too. Last edited by CC 330i; 07-05-2005 at 11:17 PM.. |

We have nice view of incinerator plants, shopping complexes or a sea of tail lights.

For the West Coast people, I've tried several of those NorCal roads that are on that motorcycle website and I think those roads are too well known now. There are usually a lot of LEOs and squids on those roads. Unfortunately I think it is a huge citation or clusterf#5k accident waiting to happen. DEs are your best best for really wringing out the car. There are so many tracks in both SoCal and NorCal there's no reason to drive hard on public roads IMHO. |

Decker Canyon in SoCal is a good time. Here is a link to some popular driving roads particularly in SoCal and the west coast.

Stunt Road...take it starting in Calabasas and takes you toward PCH/Malibu...fun, fun, road...My friend and I got a speeding ticket at the top of Stunt Road...2 police officers saw us driving up the mountain...
Advice if you're gonna drive there...have someone waiting at the bottom and top of the mountain to make sure the road is "clear" K

The mountain vineyards of Chianti. Just unbelievable. Unlike my previous pick. VERY windy here.
