JB4 On the fly controls?

Hey, I was looking into perhaps getting a jb4, do the G20 models have on the fly map switching like the f30 does in the gauge cluster yet?

I don't believe the "Live Cockpit" aka digital dash is supported yet.

I've tried it once using the app (can't use the live cockpit like you could the gauges in the F30). I actually did it by mistake but it seemed to change maps on the fly. But I don't feel comfortable doing that. I always put the car in diagnostic mode to change maps, even if you don't need to.

What's the rationale in putting it in diagnostic mode to change maps?

I had a very bad scare this weekend with my JB4, it was causing my car not to start. Luckily I was able to fix it though.

Only rationale is peace of mind for me. Absolutely not needed to switch maps.

What happened with your JB4?

Gotcha.

Had a random CEL. I tried reading the codes multiple times and the JB4 kept stating that there were no codes but the CEL was still here. This was all while I was driving at the same time. I hadn't updated the firmware and there were 3 versions that had been released since I installed it, so I decided to update the firmware WHILE I was driving. Once I stopped, the JB4 stopped connecting to the app and then car started to bog down and I could feel a huge loss of power. Had to drive it in eco mode until I parked. Once I parked, I tried reconnecting the app again and it would not connect at all. So I popped the hood and checked all the connections and it still would not connect. So I turned off wifi and bluetooth on my phone and then re-enabled it. Once I did that it finally reconnected to the JB4. Once it connected, re-updated the firmware, read the code, cleared it, then CEL went away and everything went back to normal haha. I was definitely freaking out though because I was out of state from where I live.

Oh man. I can imagine how you'd have felt. I had something similar happen with my A4 a few years ago.

But yes. I believe they say you should update firmware only when car is in diagnostic mode? I only do it at home (since, if anything happens, car would be stuck at home and not somewhere else). I've never tried updating while the engine was running. With my luck, whatever that can go wrong will go wrong if I tried that.

I definitely was not in diagnostic mode when updating the firmware and it worked perfectly. And I hear ya, I've been waiting, I would do the same of doing it at home but with the predicament i was in yesterday, had no other choice. I'm just relieved everything is back to normal haha.

Are you running the beta firmware now? I read about some people having issues and Terry mentioned something about it on N54tech. So I'm waiting to run the latest firmware once they've sorted that out. Also. Do you use E85?

Not sure if its beta but I'm running v19. Nah, don't use E85 and don't plan to. Once I get CP and DP installed, I want to hit up Terry about doing a custom map 6. I'm just treating map 1 as low boost and map 3 as high boost for now. I'm usually on map 3 tho.

Yeah. I use map 2 as a back up map when I don't get any e85 and have to drive to a gas station where E85 is available. I used to be on map 2 or 3 before. I add E85 mainly for timing.

Nice, yea I've been lurking on your threads between here and N54 Tech. As much as i would love to run E85, I literally only drive my car once a week and trying to find E85 every time I need gas just didn't feel feasible and am happy with a 93oct tune. Just want to push it further with a custom map 6.

Was it a noticeable difference going map 2/3 to a dialed in map 6?

That makes sense. I have 6 pumps in a 5 mile radius that have E85, with two of them being BP (which is where I fuel up from). So E85 was a no brainer for me.

And yes. There is a noticeable difference. It isn't a huge difference per se. But my map 6 feels smoother than map 3. Also feels powerful. Dragy shows that there's a big difference in performance (almost 0.4s difference in quarter mile times). The 62-124MPH times are also around 1.5s faster with the new map 6. The main thing for me is driveability. It feels nice. Almost like a flash tune.

Makes sense. I too am seeking more power with a smoother power band with emphasis on getting more power up top. While map 3 is definitely a noticeable difference, feels clunky for me with the jolt of power delivery. Definitely want something similar to stock where the power band is more linear and smooth. Hoping the DP will also help with gains on the top end because these B46's definitely lose a lot of steam up top.

I'd love to know your impressions after you get the DP. And yes. My map 6 makes more power up top. I've run my map 3 and map 6 logs through VD (taking on the same day just minutes apart). The map 6 log was smoother and power up top was much higher.

You've convinced me lol. Probably won't be doing the CP/DP until next month or so as I have a queue of parts just sitting in my crib that I need to install already but will definitely keep you posted.

Let's see if I change my mind and get a DP after reading your observations! I've heard only good things and wonder if it's worth it on a lease. But hey. If it helps, I just might get one.

I think DP on a lease is fine. It's a fairly easy install so removing it before turning the car in shouldn't be too bad. Will let you know once I have it installed and get a map 6 tune!

It'll be fine as long as it's reversible. What I'm worried about is my competency regarding being able to install it. I mean. I broke a damn clip trying to install a JB+. Imagine what can happen if I try installing a DP
