Leather Ceramic Coat
I've read that you can ceramic coat your leather interior for added protection. This of course different from ceramic coating the exterior of your car. I've seen some blogs, forums, and videos of people doing this and the reviews have been mostly positive. There are two products that I've read or saw being used which are Gyeon Q2 Leather Shield and Ceramic Pro Leather.
What's your thoughts on this? Any personal experience with doing this? |

Does a leather ceramic change the factory matte finish?

It shouldn't no. You can ceramic coat any surface on your car.

Anyone who has coated their leather, how does it hold up over time? I know that exterior ceramic coatings need maintenance (and particular soaps), is it the same for leather?

Coatings for the interior are a bit gimmicky IMO. Of course it works, but I also enjoy a clean interior so my cars have never needed anything like that. If you haul stuff around or have kids I’m sure there’s some added value there.

I applied the CarPro coating to new Coffee Merino leather 2.5 years ago to protect against dye transfer from blue/black jeans. The coating retains the original matte finish after application. It works very well.
Any dye transfer or light wear (outer boosters become shiny over time from frequent use) is removed with mild cleaning. I use Leather Master leather dye transfer remover, Leatherique leather cleaner, or sometimes Simple Green. Because the coating is so easy to apply, I reapply it once a year. Here it is after two years (looks just as new up close). |

I bought the Adam's Polishes leather ceramic coating kit to protect the light Silverstone. Their product has treated me well. A detailer I work with said that's like putting an Aldi steak sauce on an aged Wagyu. He uses Gyeon. I'm more concerned about the exterior.

I'm getting some work done on my new G80 (PPF, Ceramic Coat, etc.) and they are recommending to ceramic coat my interior (leather & carpet). They use Liquid Armor and said that it protects for 2 years.
I've never done anything to protect leather other than using consumer grade cleaners & conditioners once every 2 years or so! Is Liquid Armor recommended and what's a price I cannot refuse for that?

This thread is very interesting to me. I current have an Alpine White with Silverstone interior G80 awaiting an allocation and I'm pretty nervous about the interior color..
I've always had Black leather and never worried about dye transfer and cleaned every few months. With this light color i'm pretty terrified of the seats turning blue/black. Do the leather ceramic coatings leave the leather feeling soft? I'd hate to ruin the good leather, it's one of the reasons why I went with the full leather option! |

I applied Adams Ceramic Leather coating to my Yasmin blue interior. The leather stays supple and it has a very nice smell. I went with the Adams because of the reviews and the fact it has the UV tracer so I was able to check for proper coverage.

My M4 in production also has Silverstone full leather interior, and it’ll get CarPro ceramic leather coating at the first opportunity. I’ve used it on Merino leather on my X5, in combination with Leather Masters leather dye transfer cleaner. The leather has remained supple after 41,000 miles, plus easy to clean (restores the original matte finish on high-traffic areas which gradually turn shiny).
This time around I might apply ceramic to the carpet in the front floorwells, which are subject to road salt residue. Rubber floor liners do a great job of protecting most areas, except around the throttle pedal and the dead pedal. |

I did this video on the Adams Leather Ceramic. The kit on amazon is a good value as you get cleaner and a brush also.
It has already saved me after spilling a drink on my seats. It did not stick at all.

Well, this is my G80 with Kyalami Orange interiors after ceramic coating. I can tell you that color poo a bit more, and it does Ofer protection the the leather. My kids already spilled coke in the back seat and didn't stick to the seat at all (I stop and clean it quick) but in my X5 with no protection the seats get stain a lot faster and coke would of been a problem there.
For me, definetly worth it just in the looks and the hydrophobic effect. |
